    dell printer 720 incompatible with window 7

    I have a simple Dell Photo Printer 720 wich has worked fine with Windos XP. I now understand that there is no driver available to make this printer work with windows 7. Does anyone know how to work around this problem or do I have to junk my printer and chalk it up to "progress"

    Thank you,

    I can't answer your question, but I have a Dell 725 printer that supposedly is compatable with 7. Only one problem, it isn't working. Help anyone??

    Me too!

    Same problem - I have a Dell 720 Printer that I tried installing the Vista 32-bit driver from Dell Support on, and it won't do a darn thing. I get a 0x00000006 error.

    Is this printer screwed for Windows 7? I'm trying to get it to work on a Win7 64-bit Pro computer. It worked for Vista 32-bit (cause it worked yesterday), but not anymore.

    Great....

    I just found this on Dell's support site:

    Dell - Technical Support

    Turns out the 720 printer is *not*, repeat, *NOT* compatible with Windows 7. Hopefully this is addressed, but I don't hold out all that much hope. I had enough problems getting it to work on my old Vista machine. Finicky piece of.......

    Hi,

    have you tried installing the Vista drivers in compatability mode for Vista? Just right click the install file and select 'Properties' -> 'Compatability' and click 'Run this program in compatability for...' and select Vista from the drop-down list.

    Hope this helps :)

    In almost all cases if there are no OS drivers the Dell's will not work. The Dell ink-jets are made by Lexmark for Dell but the Lexmark drivers will not work. Keep in mind, with "old hardware" that Dell. like most vendors are in the business of selling new hardware. It would be nice if they kept old hardware going but that's not the case.

    Windows 7 vs Dell 725

    The driver can't be installed properly if Windows 7 is not an English release.
    Take a look at C:\Dell\drivers\R146494\drivers\Win_XP2K\DLCFprc.inf :
    <BEGIN>
    [SourceDisksNames.x86]
    1 = %instdisk%,,,
    2 = %instdisk%,,,\common
    3 = %instdisk%,,,\common\%LANG_PATH%
    4 = %instdisk%,,,\i386
    5 = %instdisk%,,,\i386\%LANG_PATH%

    [SourceDisksNames.amd64]
    1 = %instdisk%,,,
    2 = %instdisk%,,,\common
    3 = %instdisk%,,,\common\%LANG_PATH%
    4 = %instdisk%,,,\x64
    5 = %instdisk%,,,\x64\%LANG_PATH%

    <END>

    The variable LANG_PATH seem to be unset in Windows 7.
    You have 2 solutions to properly install the driver :

    1) Set LANG_PATH=English
    2) Edit C:\Dell\drivers\R146494\drivers\Win_XP2K\DLCFprc.inf and replace % LANG_PATH% by English.

    I hope this tip will help you.

    So I have Windows 7 and I did find a way to use my dell 720 printer, although it's not without having to x out of 2 errors messages that will pop up everytime you print something. You need to download the Vista 64 bit driver Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States] and install. as I said everytime you print something you will get 2 separate error messages (dl something and something else) just x out and your stuff will print. It's a pain, but cheaper than a new printer ) Hope this helps
