    Works on 10!

Chiming in to say Thank You! I'd like to add that as a few others have found, this method also works on Windows 10. I used the method in the original post exactly and it got my 35 working on my Windows 10 x64 Lenovo Yoga. I'm thrilled!

    Windows 10 x86 - LIDE 35 scanner

I have a spare PC that still has the CanoScan LIDE 35 attached. This PC is running 32-bit Windows 7, and of course, I'm getting the reminders from Microsoft to upgrade. Based on everything that I have read, I should be fine in upgrading to the x86 Windows 10 (32-bit) and still be able to use the existing Windows 7 driver. Has anyone else had a different experience? I double-checked to make sure that Canon hasn't added any support for 32-bit versions of Windows after Windows 7. The answer is no. They don't list a driver.

    Thanks.

Works on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

I just want to chime in that the CanoScan LiDE 35 works on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit (as of the latest Anniversary Update) using the same original steps!!!! CanoScan Toolbox 4.9 works perfectly with it.

More success on Windows 10 Pro

Registered to say thank you - saved a scanner from the bin! Can't believe Canon get away with this shoddy support when they have a driver that works.

    Scoutfu-

Your instructions got my LiDE 35 working under Win 7 PRO x64 several years ago, and I came back here when, after upgrading to Win 10 x64, none of Canon's drivers - even those that claim compatibility with that OS, including the LiDE 60 installer we're using part of - could see the 35.

I followed your instructions (and my tweak to the PATH command that I posted at the time) again and got Printers and Devices to show it as "CanoScan," but though my scanning program, PaperPort 12, sees it enough to list it as the LiDE 60, it grays out the scan button, and its scanner test routine complains that it's not attached.

Printers and Devices says that I need a WIA driver to use my CanoScan. I found a driver at SourceForge (migrated to GitHub) called WIA over Twain, but it didn't help, even after I disabled Driver Signature Enforcement so it would install. Any suggestions?

Canon scanners are known for having buggy drivers, well it's Canon's fault.
I had a similar problem with a Canon CS9000F scanner on the paper "perfectly" compatible with Windows 7 64bit but in the real life Windows would not see it.
After a long struggling with an incompetent and arrogant Indian (customer care) who pretended to have Administrator rights of my computer over internet I decided to give up on Canon support and installed VueScan.
It just works, you install it and it works, no need to mess with Windows and no need to mess anymore with Canon, no more Canon products for me.

How to install canon canoscan lide 35 on windows 10

    Hi Everyone,

I found this information very useful in Windows 7 x64 but, that was a few years ago and couldn't get my LiDE 35 working until now as I just formatted my computer and installed Windows 10. I got lost in the sequence of getting it to work and so when I did I decided to post my detailed instructions on what worked for me to get my Canon Canoscan LiDE 35 scanner working on Windows 10. I thank all that have helped in the past and hope that some will find a use in this post.

HOW TO INSTALL CANON CANOSCAN LIDE 35 ON WINDOWS 10

Download and Extract “LiDE 60” Driver on the Desktop into a folder
    Go to Device Manager
Right click on “Canoscan” (it probably has a yellow triangle beside it), click on “update driver”
Click “Browse My Computer for Driver Software”
Click “Let Me Pick from A List of Available Drivers On My Computer”
    Click On “Show All Devices”
    Click “Next”
Wait for Windows to fill the list
Go down in the list to find “Canon Inc.”, not “Canon”
    Click on “Canoscan LiDE 60”
    Click “Next”
Microsoft will bring up a message that reads,” Installing this device driver is not recommended because Windows can not verify that it is compatible with your hardware. If the driver is not compatible, your hardware will not work correctly and your computer might become unstable or stop working completely. Do you want to continue installing this driver?”
    Click “Yes”
Windows has successfully updated your drivers
    Canoscan LiDE 60
Then Install “Toolbox 4.9.3.2”, the file name looks like this “cstbwin4932en.exe”

HOW TO INSTALL CANON CANOSCAN LIDE 35 ON WINDOWS 10
    windows 10 64bit
    canon lide 20

Do you know if your instructions will work for canon lide 20?

Using your instructions I installed the canon lide 60 driver. In devices the canon lide 20 is displayed.
Rightclick icon -> hardware -> general -> this device is working correctly.

I also installed toolbox 4.9.3.2. Because it is a windows 7 file I installed it in compatibility
    mode windows 7.

If I run toolbox and click pdf or any other button I get to select the canon lide 20. Then click
scan down right. A message displays saying server is occupied. This cannot be done.
Because another program is occupied. Click move to in order to activate the other program
and solve the error. I can then click move to or try again. Try again option does not work. Clicking
move to displays an error message saying scan gear c. Cannot communicate with
scanner. Cable may be disconnected or scanner may be turned off. Check status. Scanner
driver will be closed. Ok. Clicking ok it says toolbox. Unable to open twain source.
Please check connection. Then re-start tollbox. Ok.

Then it is not the right driver?
    Suggestions?
