    HP LaserJet 1200

I have a Laserjet 1200 and I can't get it to work either. I've tried compatibility mode for Vista and XP. Hopefully a future build will include a driver.

According to HP LaserJet and Color LaserJet Products - Product Support Matrix for Microsoft Windows Vista - c00808536 - HP Business Support Center the HP LaserJet 1100, 1200, and 1300 Series is supported natively by Vista.

In looking further, the link to the HP web page is outdated, but searching for the same title leads me to Laser Printing Problems using Microsoft Windows Vista - The HP LaserJet blog by Vince Ferraro - which seems to have some valuable information in it. Perhaps this will help you out in Win7?

premorob - your update broke the link - it changed the "text" of the link but not the acutal link, so it still points to the LaserJet 4....

DMB, use this link in IE: Microsoft Update Catalog

How did you get it to work? I double clicked EZInstall, and the installer begins, asks me to make sure printer is plugged in and powered on, then it hangs. sometimes it says its found new printer, but then hangs, and other tries its never found it. i've tried it both plugged in directly to my laptop via USB, and through the port replicator i'm using. no luck.
i'm using win 7 version 7068 if that matters.
    thanks

Actually I was trying to set it up on the wrong port - I thought I was connected with an LPT1 printer port. When I realized I was using a usb port, I scrolled down the available ports and saw the Laserjet 1200 driver in the list of ports. That worked. My new system doesn't even have a printer port. duh. Brain fart.

sorry, i'm feeling a little "thick" --- can you explain what you mean when you say you scrolled down the available ports? Where? Somewhere in windows?

I thought I understood, and went back to make sure i had downloaded the driver labled HP LaserJet 1200 - USB. And actually, i had NOT. But now that i do have the USB version, i'm still not having success installing the printer. keeps telling me to make sure its plugged in an powered on, but never finds it.

Start out in Devices and Printers, either from the start menu or control panel, then click add a printer. I had the HP driver installed before I did this, not sure if that was necessary or not. It does add another printer, I still have the one that Windows found that has no driver, but I have the new one I added also that works.

okay, i understand now... where i'm stuck is actually getting the driver to install. I downloaded the USB package, extracted it, then i'm launching the EZnstall. I get the dialogue box that tells me to clic next, and make sure the device is connected and powered on, but it hangs, and never installs. if any of my steps to get the files installed sound different from your exprerience, let me know.
    thanks!
