Thanks LEXXION (and also everyone else) I was able to install the driver.
![]() But I have one problem .. my native resolution is 1280x800 but Windows 7 is making it 1024x768. I have a widescreen laptop. Is there any way to change this? Thanks. I used the list all modes option, but 1280x800 is not there. ![]() |

I would try to use 6.14.10.3732 as it may fix some problems. The function key + brightness adjustment should work fine but software control of brightness I never tried it.

Installing video driver for Intel 855 Centrino Chipset
Lexxion,
thanks again for your help, Vista Utilities did't work on sony vaio t2xp but its original Utilities (for widows XP) did work and most of Fn are working now. now it tried to apply all this proceedure to my other laptop, sony vaio t150, after reaching to step 5, windows asked me to restart. after restarting, screen was still same i mean small with low resolution. and there is a message, " HkWindName: hkcmd.exe - Bad Image. C:\Windows\system32\igfxsrvc.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system admin or the software vendor for support". i can see the driver name in the device manager next to display. but both files name are with esclamation yellow marks. i tried to uninstall and follow your tutorial from step 1 to 5 but same problem. may be i have installed all windows 7 32bit updates first on this laptop rather sorting out the display issue first, or don't know what is the problem, please help ![]() anybody please advise what to do regards |

I would right-click those exclamation yellow marks and do 'Update Driver' and pick the folder with the driver I provided to see if it will install it correctly. After install restart again. See if it works. |

i finally got the vista driver to work on my windows 7 laptop.
i used this driver: http://justendeal.com/driver/855gm_vista_driver.zip after reading back and combining solutions .. i installed drivermax 4.5 which i figured out that it would have been what the older post posters would have used since the new version of drivermax didn't work for me. i imported the driver with drivermax and restarted. the blue screen of death appeared. then i remembered a post saying that i needed to reboot into safe mode pressing the F8 button on booting up, run msconfig and and on the boot tab made sure that "OS boot information" had a tick. Pressed ok, rebooted, no more blue screen and the driver worked. thank you God and to everyone on this thread. *hugs* .. hopefully no more troubles .. ![]() |

Sony VGN T1XP Tried and Failed
To Lexxion,
Sadly I followed the instructions on my Sony VGN T1XP to the letter and it failed. I followed all the instructions to the letter. Downloaded the files required, loaded a CMD in admin mode. Took control of c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys file. Then got to Step 5....STEP 5 In Device Manager uninstall Standard VGA Adapter. It will prompt you to restart so do it........so I restarted and now my machine does not load. Black screen that stop does not load into Windows. Tried Safe Mode.....no joy....Tried Safe Mode Command prompt......no joy......Tried Safe Mode Low Resolution...no joy. Regardless of boot option the screen is black. Any suggestions? ![]() |

Thanks you, Lexxion
You don't know how much I appreciated what you did. I spent hours and hours on this, to a point it wasn't for the sake of getting a better looking computer, but really an obsession. I tried every method recommended by others, and also my own ideas, and none worked. Your method is the only one that worked, and also the only one that really made good sense to me (and that's probably why it worked in the first place).
Although your detailed description may be intimidating at first glance, the idea behind it is very simple: (1) identify a video driver that would work; and (2) take away the control over the default video driver from the computer; and (3) install the identified video driver that works. The fact that there is an almost fully functioning video driver out there for this old system is just luck, and the fact that there's someone like you smart and persistent enough to figure it out is an even more fortunate thing. Thank you very much. |
