Thanks- I installed Rightmark CPU Clock Utility to control the laptop's temperature in addition to reinstalling the video and card reader drivers. The laptop's been running for about 7 hours straight so I think that a combination of the two things may have addressed whatever problem I was having.

Can you or anyone else recommend any other temperature monitoring utilities that I should use? I used Notebook Hardware Control but that doesn't seem to work with 7.

Does anyone know why does my Dell 700m ran so hot even when no programs were running? I was having the same issue with Win XP, which is why I started using NHC.

Edit - I found Lavalys Everest as an alternative to monitor my computer's temperature.

I would clean CPU fan and any other vents you have on a laptop. There might be excessive dust in there.

Btw, nice to see that the solution is working for you.

Hey lexxion, I am trying to go through this process with W7 Ultimate x86 (32b) to intall legacy drivers for my ATI Xpress200M in a fujitsu S2110 laptop. All other drivers are working, but like everyone else, the generic vgapnp.sys keep reinstalling itself automatically no matter what I do.

After going through the process and adding an x to the beginning of the file, making the file start with xMZ, the computer will no longer boot into windows in any mode, even safe mode.

When in safemode in hangs while loading PNPCLASS which i think is probably related to loading up vgapnp.sys.

Why do you think this would be happening and is there a way to keep my computer from depending on this driver file while booting?

I was looking through my Intel Driver Control panel, and there was some information about Sleep/Wakeup etc if it supported by the driver.

Check your Intel Video Control panel. It would either say Supported/ or Not supported

All of these features said 'Supported' for my laptop.

It should be running in your system tray on the right side (Little blue monitor). Just right-click on it and go to Graphics Properties->Information and look through the tabs.

If you do not see it just do 'run' and type 'igfxtray.exe'. That should put that little blue monitor in your system task tray.

For example, I also have Acer Aspire One 8" netbook with Vista on it. I installed latest graphics driver from Intel for 945GM but it says that Sleep/Wakup is NOT supported.

I do not know if there is anything special with the drivers/Bios/Os that cannot control them. This worked OK with Windows XP and Acer original video drivers.
