Windows 7: Instability with Win 7 x64 + nVidia drivers (9600M GT)

How about trying this...turn your core and shader clocks down just a little bit at a time to see if maybe this may be an issue. I would do it in increments of 50 to see about stability. Don't go too low.
P.S. write down your original settings for reference.

How about disabling hardware acceleration for flash videos, in the flash settings? Return your core and shader settings to original and try the hardware acceleration for flash settings.

I would definately recommend making sure you are running the latest Bios update available (Making sure it is compatible with Win7 and x64 OS). I found that the one for Vista x64 did not work as well with windows 7. Contacted the bios manufacturer and asked if there was one for Win7 x64....they provided a beta update and my system has been far more stable since.

Thank you, guys. I did one more fresh install of Windows 7, I'm trying to ignore the problem, since I can't find a solution. I tried a few more things since than:
  • changing the power plan to "High Performance";
  • disabling card-reader power saving inside BIOS setup;
  • disabling a few non-essential services.

Last log-in to my PC this afternoon, Flash Player/Chrome didn't crash one single time. Right now, it's crashing every 5-10min. It's weird.

I'm gonna try some underclocking with RivaTuner. Powermizer is now turned off, so the GPU should be running constantly at stock clock speed.

One more thing I've noticed with CPU-Z is that the CPU clock speed is variable, and it's not running at maximum clock. I think there must be some kind of power saving in there, maybe that's the issue? There's nothing at the BIOS setup for me to mess with clock speeds.

Thanks again! It's the only forum I've managed to get some decent answers...

Edit 1: Sorry, false alarm. Just had a crash right now, after 2h of Flash Player running. :/

---

Edit 2: It seems like when running on battery, Chrome and Flash Player don't crash at all!!! Could this be some issue related to power management, or something like that???

Take out the battery and run solely off the adaptor.

OMG! That worked! Such a simple solution...

Thank you! Everything is pretty stable until now, I'll report any crash. But how about now? Do I have to remove the battery every time I want to plug in the AC adapter? That sucks...

Drain the battery fully, then put it aside until you need to use and charge it.

Ok, I did this, but I'm still having crashes with the battery on, or with battery + AC adapter plugged on. Apparently, there are no crashes when the laptop is connected only through the AC adapter, without any battery.

You suggested me to reinstall the ACPI drivers, right? Even after clean installs...? I haven't figured out how to do this yet, there are many ACPI entries in the device manager list.

I think I'll be going back to Vista if I can't solve this problem.

Uninstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant System driver and reboot - you can set Device Manager to View By Connection to show it more clearly.
