Please help!!! I have been searching for almost 3 days now in different forums for an answer and can't find ANYTHING that will work!!! SO FRUSTRATED!!!

I have a compaq presario r4000 laptop that I just upgraded with more RAM and windows 7 which is awesome and everything went totally smooth EXCEPT my audio won't work!!! It says the driver is not correct and have tried installing a few different ones and nothing has worked for me... I have seen plenty of people online that have started threads that have the same problem but no one so far has had a solution...

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to Seven Forums: Here is a link to a Vista 64 bit Conexant AC97 Audio driver http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...cc=us&swItem=ob-51288-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN You will have to use compatibility mode to install it. Simply click on the setup.exe file>properties>compatibility>drop down menu select Vista>check the box run on compatibility mode. Open the setup.exe file and run as administrator. I hope this will help, this forum has several threads with conexant AC97 audio driver issues.Which can be found by using the search function (top of page) yet I haven't seen any thread that has posted full success. Fabe

I've had the same issue with this brand and model. No matter what I did, hp and conexant drivers would not accept. I had a number of different error messages depending on how I tried to get the device to detect properly. I ended up reinstalling as 32 bit, and the correct driver came up in the first batch of updates. I allowed it to install, and it worked perfectly. So, if you can get away with not running 64 bit ops, this is your solution. Apparently, conexant does not want to support Win7 in 64 bit. Might be something to do with the design of the bus (Other similar legacy hardware is not supported as well, by Win7)
