Monitor Driver won't load the first time

Hi, hope someone can help. This seems like a simple issue, but I've been to two other forums and gotten no response.

W7 runs fine, but I'm looking for help with an annoyance which I believe is a driver issue. My monitor (Philips 202p73) doesn't offer a driver for W7. I have an XP driver for it, but, not surprisingly, when I tried to point W7 to the XP driver, it wouldn't take. However, W7 somehow has found a driver for the monitor. It shows all the correct resolutions and refresh rates and uses the correct name. My vid card drivers are up to date.

The annoyance is that every time I logon, first the generic non-PNP driver loads and THEN the Philips driver loads. As a result, my screen goes blank and comes back on just as it would if you were changing the resolution. This happens every time I logon.

I've tired deleting the drivers, but they restore back the same way. How can I make W7 use the Philips driver only and not load the generic non-PNP driver first?

    Thanks.

You may be able to force win 7 to use the XP driver by installing it in compatibility mode. to do that right click the installer>properties>compatibility>check XP.

If that doesnt work try to find a vista driver and do the same thing. That usually works

Thanks for the reply. Good idea, but the file is an actual driver file, not an application (exe) that installs the driver, so there is option to change "compatibility".

Again, what's strange is that W7 DOES appear to use the correct Philips Driver (although I'm not sure where it got it from, probably W7 itself). If W7 would load this driver FIRST, instead of the Generic Non-PNP driver, then I think the problem would be solved.

Maybe the Philips driver is some kind of variation of the Generic non-PNP driver? I don't know. If I could delete the generic non-PNP driver from W7 (system folder?) then maybe it would only be able to choose the Philips one, or maybe it would leave me SOL with no monitor display.

Even if no one finds a solution, it would be great to at least understand what's going on here.

    Thanks.

Let me put this another way... If I go to change my resolution setting, under the "Display" box there are two choices. Philips 20273 OR Generic Non-PNP monitor. I would like to remove the Generic Non-PNP option. Is there a way to delete this from the "Change appearance of your displays" section?
