Major problem with ATI Catalyst update
I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to update my Catalyst drivers from 9.12 to 10.2.
Following the instructions, I first tried to uninstall 9.12. The program may not have uninstalled properly, but it did succeed in removing access to the uninstaller. I was not asked to reboot, the monitor resolution was not effected, and ATI CCC still appears when I right-click the desktop.
I then tried to install 10.2. I got as far as the Install button (before being presented the array of options) when the installation failed. The error message was
This program may not have installed properlyThe error message makes no sense as the version I attempted to install is the one for my OS (W7 Pro x64).
If this program did not install correctly, try reinstalling using settings that are compatible with this version of Windows.
I then rebooted and tried installing again, but got the same error. I then downloaded and tried reinstalling 9.12, but again got the same error message.
At this point, my computer is functional, but I would like to resolve this problem. Catalyst is clearly still installed and it seems that the first step must be to remove it. Can you offer any suggestions? Is there any value in recovering the system to yesterday and trying to start over?
