Problems with 7077 and CCC, what can I do?

    Hi All,

After quite some time working with Build 7000, I finally decided to upgrade to Build 7077 yesterday... something I now regret. For some reason, my computer won't let me run the ATI Catalyst Control software for my HD 4870X2 video card, and in addition to that, won't let me install updated drivers. To be fair, the installation shell for 7077 did warn me that there might be a problem, but I followed the recommendation provided to rectify it (uninstall the offending software to be reinstalled afterward) and continued with the upgrade. Now I can't get access to my video card controls which has caused me some problems with some games that need video card control rather than game control of their effects, making them essentially unplayable (went from 35-40 fps to 4-5 fps), at least until I can get back into the control center.

Now, since my computer is primarily a gaming platform, this creates a huge problem for me. By not having access to the CCC (catalyst control center), I can't run my favorite games, so I need to correct the issue as quickly as possible, but I can't simply roll back the change or reinstall build 7000 over build 7077 (at least I don't think I can... please correct me if this is wrong), so I'm really only left with two options: 1) figure out how to make it work correctly under 7077, or 2) Uninstall / Reformat and reinstall everything, a task that would take me over a month in my free time.

I guess I'm asking then, if anyone has had this problem with the CCC, and whether or not anyone has managed to get it to work correctly and how. If not, what options do I have that might allow me to return to build 7000 without wiping my program drive (I have a seperate drive for programs so I don't have to erase them all... however, last I heard, Win 7 and/or Vista doesn't have the ability to scan for installed software and repair of the links and shortcuts without actually reinstalling everything...). Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Greg

I had the same problem with my 4870. You have to remove the drivers for the card that are downloaded during the update of the system that happens when you install, they are 1.1 can't remember the exact name, to remove them got to the control panel where you can see the latest updates made to the system.
Once you've done that you will be able to install the latest catalist drivers.:)
