Got it!
I actually downloaded the latest BIOS from HP, and made a boot disk (heard some ugly stories about trying to update BIOS' from Win 7). Also changed the shared video memory up to 64MB, and upon boot, everything looks beautiful! I can't believe how well Windows 7 runs on this old laptop. It's like bringing a dinosaur back to life! I think it actually runs faster with this 7 beta than with XP SP3. Anyhoo, just have to get the audio drivers working (and if they don't, no biggie) and it'll be fantastic.
I'm going to go back an rep those that gave good suggestions, but it was the BIOS that finally did it!
Thank you!!!
This forum is so helpful (I'm the "computer guy" among my circle, but its nice for someone like me to have a resource like this!).
