driver software showing in Programs and Features but not there.

    Okay where do I start?
In a nutshell the program for my wireless adapter appears in Programs and Features panel but it is not installed.

That's it in a nutshell but obviously that is not the crux of the problem.

Right in a little more detail. Built my system installed Win 7 64bit home premium. Plugged my netgear wg111v3 in installed it via the software on cd with the product utilising compatibility mode.

Worked fine for days. Hmm thinks me maybe I should update the driver and it may be a little faster.
onto the netgear site found the appropriate driver and downloaded it.
Installed/updated it. Now it does not work.

When I try to install it, it tries to remove the original installation but then it says it is not there so it can not remove it and that is as far as it goes (this is an infinite loop not actually, what I mean is try to install says there is already an install so it must remove first tries to remove it says it is not there so can not remove; try to install says there is already an install...) After trawling the internet for a solution I could not find anything applicable. Anyway after several futile hours of trying to fix it I decided to do a system restore. They always fail. Separate issue lets just leave this one for now.

So I try to uninstall it through device manager with the same result. I try to uninstall it through Programs and Features panel same result. Okay starting to get a little frustrated now. So i Search all the folders and delete all the netgear files and folders. Try to install/uninstall same result. It is still listed in the Programs and Features panel but it is not there. Try to delete it/ uninstall from the Programs and Features panel but it comes up this is only valid for installed programs. So if it is not installed why the **** are you displaying it in the Programs and Features panel!!!! And why will you not let me uninstall/update or install!!!

Yes I have admin rights, yes I have tried it in safe mode, yes I have rebooted straight after reinstall/uninstall, yes I know a new install of the os will do the trick and I can start from square one but I spent 3 days installing software onto this machine after I built it and I really do not want to spend another 3 doing it again. I just want to get on to my home network/ the internet on this machine using this adapter but Win 7 does not seem to want me to.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Just to update this post I downloaded Revo uninstaller and uninstalled every trace of the install (the netgear wg111v3 install), registry entries the lot. I then reinstalled from disk and win 7 flagged up that there was an updated driver available and downloaded and installed that. Problem sorted.
