ati mobility radeon 9600 driver on windows 7

    Hi,
I have just upgraded (clean install) an asus m6ne notebook from windows vista to win7.
Now I can't seem to install the graphics card drivers.

I have downloaded the ati catalyst software, but I have the feeling I'm running in circles.
The catalyst software installs but then nothing happens, I'm doing something wrong I just can't figure out what.

The graphics were o.k under windows vista(1680X1050 res.).
    Could someone please help.

    Thanks
    Ben

    Hi Ben,

It would help a lot if you could post your System Specs first. Do that and I'll be happy to help out.

    Cheers,

A couple of links that maybe of help :

Driver issue in windows 7 (ATI Radeon Mobility 4670)

    ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series

You may need to install an earlier driver because you laptop only has XP support - a vista or even an XP driver in compatibity mode or locate the inf.file thru device manager:

    Drivers - download from Guru3D.com

To install a driver OR program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

More info including how to install using the inf.file method can be found here - this works the same for W7:
You cannot install a device driver by using its installation program in Windows Vista

Go onto the Asus site, look for drivers for the video card, download the installer. Right click the installer, go to Compatibility, and change it to XP Service Pack 3. Run it, and let it go. It might work, as it worked for my Mobility Radeon 9000. I dunno if Asus gives out drivers, but they should.

Yes they have an xp driver prisoner - Ill just put up a link to the specific driver - I was thinking he would find one perhaps a better one but anyone that works would be a better starting point - thorn type m6ne in the top left of this page where it says download then "input model to search", then in the select category - select "all" - select m6ne - then select OS -xp and select the vga driver and download and install, as per prisoners instructions (compatibility mode with xp service pack 3).
