    Drivers needed - Need help

First off, I would just like to say hello as this is my first post...

I just upgraded my system from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit...everything seems to be working as it should with the exception of a few things which i have noticed and am looking for help with.

My system is a Dell Inspiron 1720, 2gb ram, Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT, Intel Core 2 Duo (2.00ghz) and running BIOS ver. A09 (most recent)

First, Windows 7 wont recognize my hardware for my Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT graphics card. I've tried locating the drivers from different locations and cant seem to get it to work. I have noticed a lot of other threads on this issue but I am a little on the confused side as to a simple answer as everyone's situation is slightly different. I'm sure you know what I am talking about here but I can give a bit more of a detailed explanation if needed.

Once this is resolved I would also like to have an explanation as to how to make Aero work.

Secondly, my touchpad works however the scroll bars on the pad wont work and the drivers from dell are not compatible with windows 7...any solutions to this?

I appreciate any help I can get and thanks in advance,

    Chris

    Have you tried these.

    NVIDIA DRIVERS 186.81 WHQL

    or these

    NVIDIA DRIVERS 179.48 BETA

Also try updating drivers manually from the device driver.

If you'd like to use newer drivers you can visit laptopvideo2go and download a driver and a modified inf. I have the 8600 GS and currently using the 195.81's.

    Thanks for the help guys...

I ended up using the 179.48 BETA and now my graphics card is recognized and no more errors.

I did however try and use laptopvideo2go to download the synaptics drivers for the touch pad but still no luck with the scrolling.

If anyone knows how to get the scroll feature to work on a touchpad (dell inspiron 1720) could you please let me know. Also, would like to know how to get Aero Peek to work...the option in the taskbar properties is greyed out.

    Thanks

This is how to turn on and off Areo Peek: Aero Peek - Turn On or Off, as for the Touchpad driver try downlaoding the driver fromt he dell site Drivers & Downloads your laptop dose not support windows 7 but you can try vista 32bit drivers under "Input Device Drivers".

    Chris1912,
if you have the correct drivers installed, you should be able to activate scroll. Try downloading from the site below.

    Download License Agreement | Synaptics

Crispy - Thanks for the help with Aero Peek, however in regards to the scrolling on the touch pad when i try to install the vista drivers from dells website it states they are not compatible with this version of windows.

Bill2 - When i open up the synaptics properties I do not see any option for scrolling. There is an option for the wheel scroll on a mouse but it doesn't affect anything with the touch pad. I tried downloading from the link you posted and when I go to install it says its not a valid Win32 application...

Thanks for the help guys. After the links you have provided and multiple different drivers tried I came across this one Drivers and Downloads

It is a 64bit driver for the Dell Vostro notebooks and I have yet to see any problems with the scroll. Works so far in documents and in mozilla. Turns out that for some reason I couldn't get the synaptics drivers to work but my computer recognized the Alps drivers.

I now have windows 7 pretty well up and running with working drivers for the graphics card and the touch pad. Aero Peek is also now working properly.

Thanks for all the help. :)
