    Can't install printers

I bought my HP Touchsmart tm with upgrade to 7 Pro so I would have an XP virtual desktop where I could install my old perfectly good Samsung laser printers.

I went through the steps to install my ML1740 and my CLP300 printers. In each case, when I clicked finish, the message appeared that the printer drivers were not installed.

Now what? I need to install those printers. I will NOT scrap them and buy new printers. Besides not being able to afford it (I spent all my available funds on the new computer and upgrade from Home Premium to Pro), it would also be reprehensibly wasteful.

    Thanks,

    Jon

    Hi Jon,

Are you sure the printers are both compatible with Windows 7? Do you have the updated Windows 7 drivers for your printers? To check, visit the printer manufacturer website. If you a cannot locate Windows 7 drivers, try Vista drivers instead (they usually will work with Windows 7)...let us know what happens.

No, they are not Windows 7 printers. That's the point of installing them under XP Virtual Desktop. That's what the Pro version of Win 7 was sold to me for, so I could have XP virtual desktop and install my old printers.

When I used to work for samsung, in the multi function printer, scanner department. sometimes the Multifunction printers will use OS specific GDS drivers, in your case these are HP compatible printers therefore there are drivers available

the ML-1740 has Win7 drivers Support for ML-1740 SAMSUNG

The CP300 has Win7 Drivers (look there seem to be a firmware update as well)
    Support for CLP-300 SAMSUNG

    cheers

    That's terrific news.
    Thank you!

    I have downloaded the drivers.

    Hi Jon,

Here is an additional resource that gives information about XP Virtual Mode and setting up devices: Windows Virtual PC Evaluation Guide. Let us know if you were able to get the printers working with the drivers that pbureau provided...
