unknown mass controller

Situation:

Sony Vaio VGN-BX665P
1GB Ram, Updated to Windows 7 (unsupported by Sony)

Hardware Manager doesnt reconise this 'mass storage controller'

GUID INfo:
{9d7debbc-c85d-11d1-9eb4-006008c3a19a}

Hardware ID's :
PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3512&SUBSYS_820B104D&REV_01

PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3512&CC_018000
PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3512&CC_0180

NOw my research seems to pointing at a " SILICON IMAGE SII 3112 SATALINK CONTROLLER " now I found XP drivers for it, but seems there is no driver for vista /Win7

Welcome to Seven Forums: I just found the same thing researching the hardware Id string. I've never seen this as a mass storage device usually they are a Ricoh or Texas Instruments even conexant. If you have found an XP driver for it. Then try and install it in compatibility mode.Right click on the setup.exe file>click compatibility tab>check the box run in compatibility mode>select XP run> as Administrator. See if this installs and removes the yellow icon in device manager. I'm guessing that is where you found out you needed the driver. Please post back. Yet under your Viao they list a Texas instruments integrated FlashMedia Controller. With Vista drivers http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...5P&SelectOS=29 . Fabe

After not fiiguring oiut the issue I decided to slap back in the XP HDD and see what the Sil 3512 hardware was about

discovered its not a Raid controller, but a SATA Link Controller Chip used for the Laptop to access the Docking Station MultiBay unit.

Still trying to find a way to get a working driver for it... Ill try the Xp with compatibility mode I guess..

Hardware ID : PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3512&SUBSYS_820B104D

cheers and Ill keep you all posted
