Intel 82830 video driver for Dell C400

I have a Dell Latitude C400 laptop which I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and I find that all the XP drivers work fine with it except for the Intel 82830 video driver, which means the screen resolution is only about 800 x 600. I have searched the web and it seems Intel have decided not to provide a driver for Windows 7.

I can't see any reason why the XP driver wouldn't work except that Intel and Microsoft want us all to buy new hardware. Could any of you clever guys out there hack the XP driver to make it work with Windows 7? There must be loads of C400 laptop owners out there who would pay good money for a driver.

If there is a vista driver that can be used if installed in compatibility mode

To do that right click the installer>properties>compatibility>vista

Can't find a Vista driver either. A lot of driver search tools that claim to be able to find one but when they have taken your money just tell you there isn't one.

Follow the directions from avisponrock in this thread Dell c400 Video driver issues...

He even posted Youtube videos demonstrating it step-by-step. Even though they are in spanish, (and I didn't understand a word of it) the directions are easy to follow.

I just updated my Thinkpad X30 to Win7 and it has the same graphics chipset as the C400 and this worked 100%. My laptop can now also enter standby mode as a result.

Xela, many thanks for your help and to avonsponrock for the video it was a great help.

It took me a couple of attempts but I did get it to work with the fujitsu driver and have a fully functional laptop.

It failed the first time because my wireless connection was still turned on and when it had installed the driver Win 7 decided it wasn't the right one and re-installed the original VGA driver. The trick is to either make sure you are not connected as Cris suggested or to restart the computer for the second time before the old driver can be downloaded.

Thanks again, can't tell you how pleased I was to get it working properly!

OK, so now I have a solution to the screen resolution problem, does anyone have a fix for the video problem that avonsponrock mentions? I tried to install DVD player software last night and it just gives me a blank screen.
