Finally got it to work!!!!! Only 3 days later! haha

sp35558.exe was the correct driver, which I had been trying to use over and over but would never work! kept coming up with a failure to work or whatever dumb error message but finally read a forum about forcing the driver.... Instead of opening the driver from the folder i downloaded it in you have to open up device manager > right click on the audio card and select update driver software > browse my computer for driver software > (this is the part that is soooo stupid in my mind...) but you can't click on the top part that says "search for driver software in this location:" instead you must click underneath it where it gives you the option "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" (how are those two any different is completely beyond me!) but as soon as you click on have disk and pick your driver it worked!!!!!!

I really hope this helps someone, I spent way too long figuring out something so silly as a driver for sound!!!!!

    Thanks for the help!

baarod, I'm hoping you can help...

I followed your instructions on page 3 getting the hardware IDs, doing a bit of research and getting the drivers to work for my modem and card readers but I cannot get the sound to work, no matter what driver I try.

I have a Compaq Presario R4000 and just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7, 32 bit (had Windows XP and the sound was working).

I tried the Vista 32 bit driver you suggested:

    IE ONLY: Microsoft Update Catalog

    Sorry -- that's 32-bit only...

    I'm looking for 64-bit now.

    Try this one: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...tem=ob-51288-1
    with no luck.

These are the Hardware IDs for my non-working Conexant AC-Link Audio:

    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_3085103C&REV_01
    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_3085103C
    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&CC_040100
    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&CC_0401

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I hope someone can help with this. I tried using the instructions for the Windows Update Catalog. There were two results for Vista/7. One was a thirty driver package, none of which seemed to work. The second was for the correct processor (x86) but failed to install, even in XP SP2 compatibility mode.

    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

    Ignore the HP drivers
Get the Toshiba p100-429 vista driver for this conexant/realtek sound chip
    http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-...0718114232.zip

    0 - unzip the files :)

1 right click the setup program - set properties to run in Vista compatibility mode as described earlier in this thread, it may be worthwhile also ticking the 'run as administrator' checkbox.
The driver should install and appear to be working, but you may get no sound.

2 Go into the sound options (control panel/sound/manage audio devices/speakers/properties/enhancements) and disable all enhancements (this will also likely work for the other drivers where it seems to be working but there is no sound).

You should then have working sound.

Any problems - copy the sys files from the install folder to the win7 system32\drivers dir and restart

    Thank you

The Toshiba drivers trick did it for my HP zd8000. After four hours of failure, I moved the sys files from the Toshiba folder to the System32\drivers folder and voila!

Trying to install the Toshiba file failed but moving the sys files and a restart brought music to my ears--literally! So far I have sound and Win7 64-bit. We'll see how long the fun lasts....

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
