    Canon MX700 AIO Network printer

Not happy.....in all builds up to and including 7077 my Canon MX700 network printer was recognised and worked like a charm, including the scanner etc.

Now on a clean install of the RC (build 7100) the Canon network scanning utility comes up with a message saying it has known problems and to contact Canon.
I have tried it in all compatability modes, administrator, the latest Vista drivers etc from Canon. I did manage to get it installed and it can see the printer but it will not allocate a port for it. When I try to allocate the port it will not work.

Canon do not have any way to contact them other than by phone (good one Canon) and I really have not had the time to sit on the end of a phone wating for them to tell me Windows 7 is not supported.

Oh...this is in x32 and x64 I have tried both but back on x32 for the moment.

I might try the long way....by reinstalling 7077 and then upgrading to 7100 but that is a bit extreme.
Anyone else had similar problems and solved them or do I just have to wait patiently for Canon?

    Does it work?

I just installed Win 7 Build 7100. I have a network connected Canon MX700 and was wondering if anyone has found a way to make this work with the RC?

I also have a Canon PIXMA MX700 and while I got the same error message the OP got I forged ahead and it installed with no visible problems.

Just to be clear, I downloaded the Vista 64 bit versions of of the printer driver (mx700svst64100ej.exe) and network driver (mx700sndwin250_ntwin250en.exe) from Canon's website installed the printer driver first then the network driver.

At the end of the printer driver installation, where it asks for a port, I picked "Manual" and chose "File". During the network driver installation it searched for printers, detected the MX700 and I was able to finish the installation.

This is with Windows 7 RC x64 downloaded from TechNet...

I can print over the network and scan over the network into Office apps and Photoshop.

The initial printer setup was done originally in Vista so the printer already had an IP address, etc.

I can confirm that I followed the above steps with the latest Vista 32-bit drivers on the Canon website and was able to get this working on Win 7 Build 7100 x86 install. Thank you for the info.

Glad to hear this worked for LarryS and I hope it works for andych too!

FYI, I emailed Canon support to ask about Win7 support for the MX700 and their response was "When Win7 is released we'll support it."

Yeah, right. They said the same thing about Vista when I needed drivers for my Canon G3 camera, but in the end they decided not to provide Vista support for that camera. Oh well, at least the printer is working now...

Interesting isn't it, when I first installed the Beta (build 7000) my other Canon printer wasn't supported, then a week or so later an update came through with drivers for it, so we will see what happens with the MX700.

I did go through the Manual Port section but didn't try the File option, I kept trying to add an IP etc and then gave up, so tonight I should be right to go...a nice clean install sitting waiting for me to set it up.

Did you install the "My Printer" software or just the print driver and the network recognition software?

Same with my install, just the print driver and network software. This will work for my needs right now until hopefully Canon releases offically supported software.

Interestingly following your advice step by step didn't work for me...Each time I tried it I got an error say new port couldn't be opened.
So I thought I would try the install disk....one more time (it hadn't worked before) and low and behold....it all worked.
I only installed the network utility and the printer driver....but it worked and that is all I wanted for now.
