    exactly the same problem

i have the exact same cable and am running into almost the same problem....have tried countless drivers now, all to no avail.....i followed all these steps as well, and it seemed to get it "closer" to working as it is in my device manager now, but still, when i select update driver, it installs a driver but does not work...

Yes, I downloaded and ran "CDM20600.exe" (the setup executable you mentioned) and I can see the cable in the device manager but when i try to update the driver it installs the driver but still does not seem to work.....i have searched the internet and have tried countless other options/drivers as well, and still nothing has worked yet....any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi Pebbly, yes, i tried in compatibility mode as well (i just tried it again now just to make sure) and still to no avail. I set the compatibility mode up for "CDM20600.exe" and for the driver i obtained, and still it doesn't seem to work.

ok someon ,i think what is happenning is Microsoft is installing its own driver when you go to update the driver, have a read and try this Drivers - Turn Off Automatic Driver Installation let us know how you get on :)

    Solved USB RS232 driver

G'day chaps. I have a similar problem with the adaptor cable driver. It displays in Device Driver, that is the version that came with adap. but is not WIndows 7 compatible. Downloaded version update suggested (it was 2.08 inlieu 2.06 auto exe). It displays as a program but does not show in Device Manager. Using adaptor to connect Garmin GPS11+ notebook but comp. still cannot find it. Help please for a fairly novice operator. Many thanks

Further to my earlier post I have tried the suggestions above, turned off Auto Drivers, Installed in Comp Mode for XP Pro etc. However the original Driver (PL2303 USB to serial) that appeared in Device Manager has now appeared as a "program" in Control Panel/Uninstall programs. I cannot find the installed Driver2.08...(refer above). What am I doing wrong. Again thanks for any help

Update to today's post. When I plug in the cable I can now see USB 2.0 Ser! but with an Exclamation Mark in Device Manager.
