    Cd\dvd drive missing!

Hi i have read loads of different threads about this from many different sites but none of them could help me so i thought id ask myself :~(

I had vista and i went out and bought windows 7 home premium. Entered the disk in and the first thing it did was offer a button to check comparability, i clicked that and it told me everything was ok.

I installed windows 7 with a clean boot i formatted my drives and then installed windows 7... everything was working fine then i realised that the CD\DVD icon was missing from my computer... a little confused i tried inserting a DVD... i could hear the disk spinning but nothing was happening. I went to device manager and tried looking for the DVD Drive but its not there... i went to "Computer" then "manage" and went to disk management... the DVD drives not in that list either... i still didnt panic.. i went to the dell website and downloaded the drivers for the laptop... they say they installed correctly but i still cannot run and Disks... i went to device manager again and could see the devices but they had a yellow exclamation mark and searching for updates just told me they were up-to-date.

I thought maybe its because the version of windows 7 was an upgrade only.. so i reformatted my laptop again.. installed vista with the back up disks.. (DVD DRIVE WORKED FINE WITH VISTA BACK) then reinstalled windows 7 but as an upgrade not as a clean boot....

    still no joy..

    ive tried going to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and deleting the upper and lower files and rebooted but that just messed up the laptop its would not boot so i had to do a system restore to get it back... i treid going to cmd and typing bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS that said it was successful and i rebooted but still no cd drive... ... so i have windows 7 running as an upgrade from vista with NO CD/DVD in device manager OR disk management and im totally stuck... any help?

If there is a yellow warning sign on the dvd drive the driver is either incorrect, not installed correctly, or just not working. Make sure you have the correct driver for your system (32 bit or 64) and you could try installing from safe mode (F8)

    xpcd.reg

Here's a little fix a tech buddy gave me.

It's a registry file. Run it then reboot and your drive should return

Your CD or DVD drive cannot read or write media

Its possible, but I highly doubt it.
The drive disappeared from his my computer. Its related to the OS. I have seen this phenomena hundreds of times as a pc tech, and 9/10 times, it was a registry corruption.

The registry fix in my earlier post will most likely fix his problem.

    Anthony,
I believe it. I've seen such things caused by usb wireless adapter, dvd software, media players.

Just reapply the fixes as given in the link I posted earlier.

After you get the system working,
    1. make a system restore point,
    2. make a system image backup using Windows Backup and Restore. Despite the poor choice of names given to these things by MS, what you want is a "system image". Be sure to checkmark all drives in your system when doing the backup.

As a general rule: Never, never, backup to the same disk that you want to backup. Backup to another disk or external disk.

does your drive detectable in disk management?

or you can disable integrity check

in CMD type "bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS" (without the quotes"
