Your instructions at the first post in this thread are really 'crystal clear' and precise...

however, I think you have to mention the following step:

"The file (exe file) downloaded has to be extracted via winrar or winzip, then we could get the driver files."

At the first time, I had no idea how to extract the file because it is an exe file...

Better solution, with no problems of freezing when maximizing the media player as with with the 6.14.10.3732 driver.

1. Click 'Start' and in 'Search' type 'msconfig'. On the boot tab, tick 'OS boot information' (this is to get rid of the blue screen during boot). Exit but don't restart now.

2. Download http://justendeal.com/driver/855gm_vista_driver.zip unpack and then update "standard vga adapter" with this driver, make sure you choose that you have a disk and point to the directory where you unpacked the zip.

3. Reboot. Now you have version 6.14.10.4656.

Thanks for the information. THis worked perfectly. I now have windows7 operational, with touchscreen, etc on a cf-29 mk2. Hopefully I can tweek it for maximum performance to be faster than the previous xp sp3 that was on it. The Windows Experience for the graphics 1.9 and gaming graphics 1.0. I just need it for a buddy of mine that is handicapped so that he can search the internet, email, but still be able to connect to cameras, card readers, etc.

Finally got the vgapnp.sys file to be totally owned by me. That is a *huge* portion of the success.
When you created your user account and if you used your full name in the user account, such as "John Smith"...
Using the cacls command takes some better attention.

You have to use:

C:> cacls C:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys /G "john smith":F

note the quotes around the username. If you don't put the quotes in, DOS thinks you're just giving the command another parameter and the command won't work.

Then, just re-issue the command to see if it worked...

C:> cacls C:\windows\system32\driverfs\vgapnp.sys

The command will then tell you who all the current owners are and you should be the only one.

If it's still owned by "TrustedInstaller", then when you reboot after uninstalling the current VGA Compatible driver, windows will just re-install a new one right over the edited file as above. *YOU* have to be the only owner of the file.


Secondly. I still have a problem..

When I unpack the downloaded driver, there are still two ".cab" files in the extracted files. They are "data1.cab" and "data2.cab". RAR won't extract them and says they are corrupt. And, there's no .inf file for the driver installation process to access in the download/extract.

When I try to update the driver and point it to the win2000 file, windows says it cannot find any driver to update in that directory.

What am I doing wrong on the extract/update??

Everything goes just peachy keen until I attempt to update the driver software. The "VGA Controller (VGA Compatible)" node is in the Device Manager "Other devices" tree with a "!" overlaying the icon. So the vgapnp.sys file is *not* getting restored at bootup. This is all good and fair.

But no matter what I do, when I try to update the driver software, Windows gives me the message:

"Windows could not find driver software for your device"

When I attempt the "Update driver software", I select "Browse my computer" and point it to the downloaded file, (WIN2000 directory) just as the instructions dictate. I've gotten 3 different versions of the downloaded file driver and they all yield the same results. All files were unpacked using winrar. One of the driver files came right from the vendor's support site, (HP), for this specific make and model of laptop, an HP Pavillion dv1000.

I'm lost. Help please.

At the point of typing this reply, I'm not sure how long your post / fix has been here but I registered just to reply and let you know how much of a god send your fix has been for me. I have a TravelMate 660 and Intel just don't support the graphics whatsoever. I'vr spent hours trying to find a driver. I even paid $2.99 at driverguide, but your fix, though a little daunting at first worked EXACTLY the way you specified it would, message for message.

I'm 48 yrs old / young and consider myself an advanced user on a level of say 7 out of 10. I'm always searching for fixes for different problems and it's people like you that help in so many ways, taking the time to be bothered to post fixes such as these. Personally I'd have been happy to pay a few bucks for the solution to this problem. Therefore if you do have a charity you support for instance, let me know and I'll happily donate. Thanks again
