    Runaway Program

I come from a W2k environment and am having lots of problems with the MS Win7 UI. It is a clean install of Win7-64 Home Premium OEM.

I have built a new pc, installed Win7, and some drivers from an Asus motherboard-support DVD. The Realtek audio driver install evidently included something called "(Asus) Realtec HD Audio Mngr." which is a runaway program.

The audio is configured HD and I am not using the AAFP facility/hardware, but the program constantly flashes "You just unplugged a device from the audio jack" and the Realtec HD Audio Mngr screen comes up. I close it and it immediately returns. It virtually insures I get no work done.

So I wish to un-install the program. Go to Cntl Panel, Uninstall, and it shows the Realtec HD Audio Driver and the usual stuff. I don't want to uninstall the driver: only the Audio Mngr program that produces the runaway screen. I can find no trace of the program on the system.

This,of course, relates to MS strong tendency to put things where they want, and not where the user (in this case the admin) can find them.

What am I missing here? Would the Realtek driver itself be issuing false warnings and throwing up the config screen? Or is there another program that is the culprit, and, if so, where does Win7 hide it?

I have set View Folders to hide nothing. The chip on the board is "Realtek ALC889". Am cross-posting in General Discussion and Drivers for obvious reasons.

I've spent days chasing this. 'Tis *Insane*!!

    TIA,
    Puddin'

Welkcome to Seven Forums. If it were me I would un-install all the realtek drivers and software and get the drivers form realtek Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version. And see if this makes a difference. Fabe

Perhaps it is not the realtek drivers ordering that popping-up Manager screen....it could be a third party program installed, that control the realtek manager screen, straight when you unplug the devices.

Thanks. I thought the runaway screen might be part of an add-on pgm or somesuch.

It would appear that the Humongous Boondoggle represented in the 65 pages behind your link belong mostly to Realtek?

Or is it 50/50, Realtek and Win7?

I have the Realtek 2.48 driver. Win7 installed <something> as soon as I uninstalled the Garbage-Ware.

If I have problems, should I add to the 65 pages, or start a new Drivers thread?

    Thx,
    P

The first page is always updated with the latest driver which is the one you have installed the 2.48. Fabe

That is normal from W7 to install his proper HD Audio drivers...soon you'll update to 2.48 it will set again the manager and you shouldn't have any trouble popping-up with the manager.

That's what I originally assumed, but the Realtek driver was the only likely candidate listed in uninstallable programs.

It looks to have installed 2:

MS HD audio device sound, video, game at L0
Intel Display audio internal HD audio bus at L3

The sound is working a little now and the runaway is gone, so I didnt take addtional action.

I should maybe uninstall the 2 above and install the 2.48?

    Thanks,

If the sound is working now and your not getting the pop up. Before trying the 2.48 create a restore point so if it doesn't make a difference you can easily restore back to where you are. I always create a restore point before I make any changes it makes it so much easier to go back to square one then try something else. JMO. Fabe

No you shouldn't uninstall both of them...You might have HDMI plug that's why both are installed. Unless you have an Ati card with their proper HDMI driver.

Now you think the "Garbage Ware" is away, simply install your 2.48 drivers and that's it!

I installed. The runaway came back. I installed again. It went away.

But I can't find the Realtek 2.48. Where the flog does it hide it?

    Thx,
