This laptop has a built in MIC and it's not working. I JUST did a fresh install/reformat of Windows 7 Ultimate not even 30 min ago. I can't install the drivers from the HP website for Audio, because I get an error message saying NO MEDIA TYPE FOUND FOR THIS DRIVER. The speakers work fine, the built in webcam works fine, just not the mic. It doesn't matter if I try to install in safe mode, as admin, or install with reccomended settings, or if I choose settings for xp, vista, ect. NOTHING WORKS.

If ANYONE can help me or has had this issue and fixed it PLEASE let me know what to do.

I THINK I heard of someone saying that Realtek has a driver that works but I can't find it, and at one point on a previous install I tried one that I found, it would say it installed properly and then it would revert back to the microsoft installed driver or something.... I'm not sure, maybe I did something wrong but it didn't work. NOTHING I have tried has worked. This is SO maddening. I've seached on forums and on google and bing and ask.com and majorgeeks, I've tried so many things and I just can't fix it. PLEASE help me if you can. Thank you so much.

NOTE: Audio Driver Conexant High Def SmartAudio 221 Default Device has a green check by it, microsoft says it's up to date, but I've tried using the sound recorder just now and it doesn't pick anything up... also, if I plug in earphones, the speakers keep playing and nothing comes out of the earphones.

The driver thing says rear pannel jack, but mine are on the front of the laptop... don't know if this matters or not.

try downloading realtek driver from majorgeeks.com "Vista_Win7_R249" as it changed my speaker software from HDA to realtek HDA as another option.
