Can't connect to internet - woke up and nothing

The last time this happened, I was able to do a system restore and it was all good. But I turned of SysRestore while I was doing some disk management and I forgot to turn it back on after I was done.

So, that's out of the question. The only thing new I noticed were 2 new important updates. I uninstalled them from 'add remove' but after a reboot, the problem continues.

My laptop still connects (using it now) so I know it has to be my OS. It's a fairly new computer, less than 2 months old, and I built it myself.

I was thinking of reinstalling the lan drivers from ASUS, but the device manager shows that the NIC is okay.

    Someone please advise.

Try switching router and modem off at the plug, wait 20-30-seconds then power on the modem first wait till it is fully connected then power on the router.

hey kodi I have a 2wire which is a wireless modem and router. (router or switch)

But the problem is fixed, for now.

Anyhoo, I found the chipset drivers on ASUS website, and tried running it. The installer
said that I had to uninstall the current drivers before it proceeded. It also said it could
do it itself, so I opted to do that.

When I did that, the computer restarted, and Windows' device install wizard was running,
the software said it couldn't continue while the wizard was active, but I couldn't get
out of the software, so I used the task manager to stop it.

I removed the drivers myself, and rebooted. Again, windows tried to install the drivers
all on its own, with no way for me to stop it.

However, I heard my skype connect sound, and I waited a minute and now I'm online.

Now, should I try to run the actual drivers from the ASUS chipset update software?

How do i stop Windows from installing it automatically? -- can't run my update with it installed already.

Reboot your computer and let Microsoft do its thing, then check the driver version in device manager and see if it is the latest.
If you are online I would not try to update but if not try to uninstall drivers and install latest from ASUS

Okay, I have noticed something funky for the past month or 2.

Whenever I have to reboot my desktop, it always comes back with no internet connection. I have to reboot it several times before it connects.

My other wireless devices connect just fine to my wifi router, no need to reboot that, as that is not the problem.

    Any suggestions?
