    Ricoh SD/MMC card reader

    Hello,

on my laptop (ASUS Z91N), I've got one left driver issue: the integrated memory card reader.

It's called Ricoh SD/MMC controller, the latest driver having the best behavior found is 2003-10-20 (1.4.2.9) from ASUS website for WinXP. All other drivers found does nothing, they install but when I plug the card, nothing appears in "My computer".

The problem is that when I plug a SD card, windows detects it, assigns a letter, but I am unable to open to look at the files. I get "Access denied" every time.

When I try to format, it does it with the good size detected! I tested by looking with another computer.

So, this problem is weird, I never had any issue similar to that in the past.

Anybody here having the same problem?

    Hi there.

I hate to ressurect this old post, but it is the exact same behaviour I have and none of the other threads I found match so well.

    So what happends is :
    a. plug in a 1GB Panasonic SD card, it gets a letter allocated, but when I try to read from it says that there is nothing there.
    b. I try to format it and it sees the right size..
overall what the post above says.

Anyone found any solution for this ?

    Other details:
    sony vaio vgn-nw21zf
the reader is a ricoh sd/mmc
    windows 7 home premium

    Hello,

after using Win7 on my laptop for around 6 months, I decided to go back to XP.

I don't remember if I tried another SD card, but I'm sure this wasn't the problem.

    Ricoh reader solution

    Hey,
I had this same problem and was able to make all of the problems that I was having running Windows 7 on my XP tablet. My card reader would not work. It would recognize the card was inserted, but would display an error message that said access denied. I found that it was not an ownership issue or a administrative user problem. I also could not get the screen to rotate. Once I disabled UAC (User Account Control), everything worked. Here's how to do it: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-user-account-control-uac-the-easy-way-on-windows-vista/ The risk of this is that you won't have a pop-up every time you install a program. This could allow something to install that you didn't want.

Fantastic. I've been searching for a solution to this problem literally for a year. Disabling UAC worked a treat. Thank you Shawn.
