    Smart Card drivers

    Hi all,

I've installed Windows 7, and had a problem using smart cards with the new OS.

I installed the drivers for my smart card reader (USB) from the manufacturer's website, and they installed fine.
Then when I go to plug in my reader, it says "Device driver software was not successfully installed" and it then says that the reader is correctly installed, but "Smart Card X No Driver found".

So I tried communicating with the reader and inserted card, and the communications is fine. So my only real issue is that every time i plug in my reader, it prompts me with "Not successfully installed" despite the fact that I've correctly installed the drivers.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

Welcome to Seven Forums. It would help us to know the exact card reader your refering to, as well as for you to fill in all your system specs. Top of page user CP scroll down to edit system specs and fill all them in. Here are a couple programs to help with finding out all your specs.Speccy - System Information - Free Download or |MG| HWiNFO32 3.55-838 Beta Download Please include 32 or 64 bit Windows Seven. I think you'll get more replies once you have done this. Thanks. Fabe

    Will do.

I'm using the ACS ACR38U USB card reader.

These same drivers and reader worked fine in Win XP SP2 and SP3.

Try using the disc that came with it and place the drivers on your desktop or file of your choosing. Right click on the setup.exe file>properties>compatibility>check the box run in compatibility>drop down menu select XP install as administrator and see if the will install and function properly. Thanks for the reply.

Tried running it in compatibility mode for XP SP2 and XP SP3, both times I experienced the same "Device driver software was not successfully installed" for the Smart Card. The ACR38 Smart Card Reader is "Ready to Use" though.

Try install the driver in Device manager.

I think I may have figured out what the issue is.
It relates to the smart card minidrivers. Looks like the manufacturer of this smart card did not provide minidrivers, and so win 7 doesn't recognize the cards.

I'm not sure what I can do though; i guess just wait for a new win 7 public release.
