I liked CCleaner but I cannot compute without SFF!!
Key West Florida
Hello, where can I download version 1.1.3 ? After using 1.1.4, after booting win 7 x64 my desktop icons get big size even if I select small size ...
Hey Key West,
Glad that helped. I was wondering of it was only me. I put SFF program folder and the user folder into CCleaner's exclusion list. Now I am having no further probems with my SFF settings getting wiped. I was able to confirm to my own satisfaction that CCleaner was in fact wiping out SFF. Good luck.
Thank you so much for this app!
I installed Win7-64bit last week and love everything about it except this dam anoying cannot remember folder size and position. Just tried your app and worked perfically.
Thank you so much for it!!!
I have been using ShellFolderFix for many months on a three monitor system without difficulties. In recent weeks, folders that I have created on my desktop to organize related program shortcuts have stopped retaining the selected “Small Icon” view and keep reverting back to “Details” view between successive use.
Settings have not changed (show tray icon, start automatically at logon, restore previous at logon and data base size set to 10,000 folders), and removal and reinstallation will not correct the problem.
This is a great program and any assistance getting ShellFolderFix to retain the selected folder icon view setting again, would be greatly appreciated.
fdonald, ShellFolderFix does not remember view settings for folders (only window sizes and positions), so it should not mess up with these settings. You can check that by uninstalling SFF completely, and working for some time without it. If the problem persists, it must be something with your system, or another program.
I have the exact same problem since a few months back, and for a time also suspected SFF. Suddenly the view settings of one folder, and its subfolders, would all reset to detailed view, even though they all had separate view settings before.
It's very intermittent however. This might happen twice in a day. Then not once for weeks. I've been unable to figure out why that is, and the internet seems to offer no good explanation. As this isn't being reported by many users, even though the "lack" of a SFF update around that time speaking against it, I still haven't ruled out SFF as being indirectly a part of this "feature". Most likely in "cooperation" with some Microsoft update that "triggers" the effect.
Considering the intermittent frequency, it might very well be due to 2, 3 or even 4 separate factors. For this reason, I'm not actively trying to solve it, I've resigned to live with it, for now. Unless someone else can shed some light on the issue...
I have found MS patches to break other nice little apps before, or resetting Windows setting, like my SendTo list/folder.
Thank you for responding to my post. The information on ShellFolderFix, as well as insight into potential causes of the problem were helpful. It sounds like I need to look at other solutions for the problem and/or simply deal with the annoyance.
Fawkrin, After searching support.microsoft.com I found the following fix and my icon view settings appear to be working again.
Diagnose and repair Windows File and Folder Problems automatically
After the application launched, I selected the non-automated option and then selected the option applicable to folder view settings. Maybe this fix will work for you as well.
