    The Sims 3

The wifey plays TS3, but the game crashes alot. She downloads quite a bit of custom content into the game, which I'm not crazy about. She's got about a million little utilities that troubleshoot her various probs and sorts them out... sometimes.

She's been going to a couple forums, and one recommends this:

    • Stop UAC
    • Reboot
    • Start the game.
    • Stop the game.
    • Restart UAC.
    • Reboot

What is this going to accomplish?

    Um, IMHO? Probably nothing.

Do you have the latest patch installed for the game?
I assume she's had the game installed for a while and that all the expansion packs (if any) are properly installed in order.

Is the custom Content Official or 3rd party?

One likely culprit could be a single bad or faulty mod causing the crashing.

If she can remember when it started, remove mods installed from that point and see if helps.

I also agree, make sure all the latest patches are installed. If you make sure EA DLM is running in the background it should take care of it for when you launch the game.

Yeah....she's got all that handled. She's been doing this long enough to know which 3rd party mods are safe and which ones BITE! LOL

On one hand, it's good that she keeps the game safe and updated; on the other, it will make it hard to figure out what's causing the crashes.
It could be anything from old GPU drivers, overheating, a malware somewhere in the system...
If you already have the latest GPU drivers, maybe you should update DirectX as well or something.

The Sims 3 has been prone to a lot of crashes since the Ambitions expansion pack.

A couple of things you could try is disabling Data Execution Prevention for The Sims 3 and all expansions (add all the .exe files to the excluded list). And try The Sims 3 crash fix from here. These two fixed crashing problems in TS3 for me.

You could also try re-installing every game, but don't install the patches yourself. Install each game and expansion in order, but let the expansions update the game themselves. I think EA recommended this themselves as a fix for some problems when installing Ambitions as it was conflicting with some previous patches.
