    GFWL- CD Key Usage Exceeded!!!!!!!!!

    Hi all,

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

I Installed Windows 7 64Bit 2 days ago and installed DOW II
But I Cannot use my CD Key to Log into GFWL??
It tells me "CD key usage Exceeded"

Obviously it was a clean install from 32Bit

But I am NOT Buying a new key!!!!!!!!
    I don't clean install a lot (every 5-6 months)
I Just wipe drive and reinstall my backup

I contacted STEAM but haven't heard anything back and now we can't even Email GFWL (Scum)
I've spent hours searching and phone support is a joke

    Any Ideas People??
    Thanks

Sorry don't know what GFWL is but I am thinking is an online game? I kinda have a question to possibly answer your question... sorry about that

If you can not send them an e-mail, it would probably be because their server is down, right? wouldn't that also be why you can not log in to their servers, hence, the CD key Usage Exceeded?

GFWL stands for games for windows live.

Yes I've had one of those with GTA IV, it's a rip off!

They must have an agreement with the games developers because how can microsoft get to tell me I can't play online any more, they don't even make the game.

And yes they want you to purchase a new key for the game you already purchased.

No amount of reinstalling will work

    Utter blatant rip off!

    Rant over.:)

Are you trying to activate using the same Windows Live account you originally used?
Double check, because if you have 2 Live IDs, it may default back to one used for say, Messenger for example if its different from your GFWL account.

When you activate your game with GFWL, it should be tied to that GFWL account (or Windows Live account)

From my understanding you get 15 total activations.

Sadly, Im uncertain if that means a re-install means a activation.

I have noticed, that when you first install a game you automatically get logged out of Live on first start with a "CD-Key Invalid" message or something along that line the 1st time you boot the game (In the case of a clean install)

    Try This:
    1) Make Sure you are logged into the correct Windows Live Account in the Game.
    2) When it shows that message, Press 'Try Again"
    3) Put in the CD-Key STEAM gives you for GFWL
At this point it "should" check that with your account and update everything wth the appropriate unlock certificates needed.

If that doesn't work, try calling them to resolve the issue:

I had to call a US Toll Free number to request my Halo 2 key usage reset. I'm waiting for a response back. Called yesterday, said I'd receive a response within 48 hours either by phone or email.

Whether they'll reset my key or give me a new one I do not know, try contacting Microsoft's Games for Windows Live and explain to them the problem before saying they rip you off. They do this to prevent someone from posting a key online and having thousands upon thousands of people using them.

I'm sorry if this is a little off topic, but I am curious as to why you nuke and pave your computer every six months...

This is common practice by those (such as myself) that do not mind reinstalling everything. Its mainly to keep the computer clean and fresh as we all know over time no matter what we do our installations will gather junk that slows down the computer's performance overall.
