    Need advice to play Civilization V.

    Hi people,

    I'm currently (want) playing this game. Civilization V - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    For my system specs, I've updated my profile so kindly take a look.

    Currently this CPU is used as a production CPU for programming and running virtual machines as testing environment (but I close them all whenever I play games).

    However, I am experiencing a slow loading times whenever I start a new map. For 2 GB machine, I'm kind of upset. I play other games just fine like Front Mission Evolved, Darksiders, Left4Dead 2, it's just Civilization that loads as slow as a snail.

    Of course I've updated my drivers in case it's a driver problem.

    Could you please point out things I can do to improve my situation? Or a simple RAM stick addition? Too bad I don't have any budget for this month...

    Thanks before.

    Have a look through this.... Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues. All the links for drivers go directly to the manufacturers website, so they should be current. Also pay attention to step#5 about updating your DX files.

    Wowser on the "recommended" system requirements for that game. Yeah, your system may be overmatched by it. However your video card should do just fine. I had one and its a fine card.

    Again look thorugh my tips on settings and stuff.

    Let me know.

    For Civ 5, it really likes Quad Core CPUs.
    Upgrading to 4GB RAM would be helpful, not only for Civ 5, but everything else.

    The Official Minimum Requirements are:
    Processor: Dual Core CPU
    Memory: 2GB RAM
    Video: 256 MB ATI HD2600 XT or better, 256 MB [COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]nVidia[/COLOR][/COLOR] 7900 GS or better, or Core i3 or better integrated graphics

    But Recommend to have at least:
    Processor: 1.8 GHz Quad Core CPU
    Memory: 4 GB RAM
    Video: 512 MB ATI 4800 series or better, 512 MB nVidia 9800 series or better

    So a lot may actually just be the machine being on the lower end of the requirements.

    Hopefully some of the suggestions in Synus21's guide will help get running a bit smoother for you.

    CIV5 is still a bit buggy in places as well.

    +1

    Good point Wishmaster. He already knows the requirements though since he posted the Wiki link, which is where I got the requirements from.

    Hopefully something in my tips will help speed things up.

    We'll see.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the suggestions. I just lowered Civilization's graphical details a lot and it seems to be considerably faster. I always had impression that the newer games usually pick the settings automatically based on my hardware specs but for this game it does not.

    I'll try to add another memory stick later when my budget permits.

    Much appreciated.

    Glad it helped :)

    Out of curiousity, did you get that from my tips?

    Thanks

    a quick civ5 tip for when you've finished your turn:

    if you are tired of waiting so long for the AI to make its moves, you can put the game into strategic mode which makes it go quicker until it's your turn again.

    it's an extra mouse-click or two each turn, but it does speed things up.

    tip 2: tired of seeing the 'legal' screen when the game is launched and the intro-movie has finished?

    you need to modify C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\Assets\UI\FrontEnd\FrontEnd.LUA (or wherever you have saved your game) and change

    Code:
        if( not UI:HasShownLegal() ) then
            UIManager:QueuePopup( Controls.LegalScreen, PopupPriority.LegalScreen );
        end
    with

    Code:
        --if( not UI:HasShownLegal() ) then
        --    UIManager:QueuePopup( Controls.LegalScreen, PopupPriority.LegalScreen );
        --end
    just stick -- at the front of each line to comment it out.

    remember to backup the file first!
    CAUTION: Remember to back up FrontEnd.lua before you modify it.
