When I try to run D2 in fullscreen I get a UE. However, when I run in windowed mode it runs just fine. Not sure why this is, but it works for me.

If you want to run D2 in windowed mode you have to right click your Diablo 2 shortcut, go to properties, and in the "Target:" field you should see something like

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe"

Just add

-w

to the end of that (after the quotes and with a space between) so it looks like

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -w

It works fine for me in full screen mode at 800x600 with the latest patch, although I mostly only tried Direct3D mode (as opposed to DirectDraw 2D mode). I also got the D2-specific Glide wrapper working via the "disable desktop composition" compatibility setting (which turns off Aero to prevent OpenGL issues).

Try running D2VidTst again. I had the same problem, but running the Video Test solved it. Now, I can run Diablo 2 normally (not windowed, that is) :)

I tested baltzatu's suggestion on my system and it works. Just as he said, I ran the program and it suggested to use Direct3D, which I then selected. After doing so, Diablo2 (LoD) worked perfectly. I have the current patch and I have copied the game-files into the D2 directory, so I can run it without the need of the CD.
Thanks, baltzatu! :)

This works for me

Reduce your screen resolution to 1360x768 and run the video test. higher resolutions invoke scaling which the app cannot handle. diablo 2 also runs full screen from this resolution.

I had to set compatibility to XP and disable Desktop composition.
But I had to install 3x before I realized that it's the cinematics what kicks DII/LoD off kilter.
So just use the recommended installation for DII (Single and Multiplayer) ~900kb without cinematics...Hell I've seen them so many times...it doesn't matter to me ;)

Update the patch to the latest version.

I experienced a graphic problem pre 1.13 patch and now it's perfect after I had updated it.

running diablo 2 in windows mode

you dont have to run the game in windows mode if you dont want to, like others said already the open GL is causing errors, a simple fix in task mgr by just ending the windows explorer, running the game game and then CTR+ALT+DEL out and start the app all over again. simple enough for those who dont know how to open properties and doing it the more stable way. also i got my D2 to run in 1400-900 ress, hard to tell what things are at times but very crisp indeed.

Running Diablo 2 LOD in full screen

I've looked all over this board and others and I cannot find a way to run D2LOD in full screen. If I disable desktop composition it brings up an error saying that I need to rerun D2VidTst. When I try to run D2VidTst it says that it cannot find it. If I try and run it normally without altering the properties of it an error message stating that it cannot initialize Direct3D. Any ideas?

Hey lord zorthan, like i said there is a prob with the open GL with diablo when running it on windows 7 with a new GPU, what y our going to have to do is go to task manager, and look for the program that says explorer.exe and right click it and go to end process tree, after you do that your going to loose windows explorer like the tast bar start menu et cedera. so your going to have to Control ALT+DEL to get task manager to come back up and your going to have to go to applications tab and then at the bottom your going to hit new application and search for the D2 Exe. where ever it may be i have my D2 installed onto my desktop, but find it and then run it and it should work fine when you go to run it in full screen, but i gotta tell you its better to runn it in windowed mode just in case you need to google something like how to get past the ****ing 3 act lol. but anyways if you need actually help shoot me an email and ill do my best to help you out! [email protected] cheers mate

ummm...

I know I'm way late for this, but I was having the same problem, but I noticed that when I ran the D2 video test, it flashed for DirectDraw, and then flashed again for Direct3D, but then didn't do anything for 3DFX Glide. I then found 3DFX Glide online, and installed, and now Diablo 2 is running without any issues. I hope this helps you, and/or anyone else who has this issue.
