I remember when I first tried the Beta (Build 7000) I would get really unstable framerates in virtually all my games. I would run smooth (60fps+) for a few seconds and reduce right to a few frames per second. I think this was because I was using Windows 7 64-bit with only 2GB of memory but even after I upgraded I was still having crappy framerates. I re-installed my Vista Business copy and got most of the performance back.

I'm now running Windows 7 RC x64 (Build 7100) and it runs smooth as butter again.
I'm not sure if my experience was caused by Windows 7 Beta itself but I no longer have any problems with my games on the newer Release Candidate.

Hope this helped. Again, this was my personal experience.
I do recommend Build 7100 over any of the Beta builds.

Was for windows 7 build 7100 has been great for gaming. Preformace wise it was great 60+ fps in a lot of games higher when it comes to the older games like CS:S i was getting around 90+. The only side issue for awhile was punkbuster as you can see from this forum a lot of people have been seeing it or have found ways to get it to work on their machine. I can recommend the RC over a lot of the leaks out there.

lower performance in some games. but i think hardware requirements w/ direct x 10 are higher than direct x 9. i went from XP to the 7rc, the the difference was VERY noticeable. but everything is prettier in dx10

Much better for me, my laptop came with Vista but games were horrible (64mb gfx) to play but when I switched to Windows 7 RC I noticed I can play games that I couldn't even play in XP!

Though I have to use Vista Drivers ?.?

Performance: Better then Windows XP, Vista, W7 Beta

Compatibility: Haven't had any issues installing games, running them, only thing that has issues is Halo 2 for ''''''VISTA'''''' likes to crash a lot on me

Bugs: XP/Vista obviously are less buggy, I occasionally get bumped out of a game of Halo 2 because of a 'problem that has occured'.

On my rig, the majority of games work just as well, if not better in 7100 than Vista. (I always use DX10 when available, so the DX9/DX10 performance hit is less noticeable for me)

However, there are a few games that are much more prone to simply app crashing, or app crashing / PC freezing with a stuck sound loop. ie Godfather II

The sound loop problem has improved with each successive build though. In earlier builds, games like COD4,5 crashed often but run flawlessley now.

The worst repeat offender is Far Cry 2, which has been unplayable on my rig with Seven since build 6801 onwards.

Well I may get flamed for this but I installed Half Life 2, yes, I know it's old now, but many people still play it, I think, lol.

Anyway after installing Counter Strike Source and running the Video Stress test I can confirm that on XP I get 88fps (everything turned up to max) whereas on Windows 7 I only get 55fps, again, everything on max settings.

My machine is old, only a single core AMD, lol. So I suspect this may be due to my rig not being very powerful, but it's a clear indication that Windows 7 doesn't quite match XP in terms of performance for that particular game. But 55fps is still playable, and the game itself has yet to crash on me.
