i have been playing team fortress 2 a bit more and my fps are actually lower than i stated before.

i get minimum 25 fps average 50 fps and max...well it doesnt really matter (200+ lol)

btw i went to device manager and see if the update driver online thing works...it actually does work...i updated my ati driver (it actually found a driver online and downloaded it and installed all automatically....that never worked for me in vista or xp) and it also updated my wireless card driver....im starting to like 7 a lot.

I got this problem with my TF2. After i installed WIn7 (about a week ago), i was running TF2 @ 60fps in battles on all high. Now i barely get 15 fps on 32 slot server on respawn. and around 9 fps on 2fort battlements. The funny thing is, doesnt matter what settings i set, i still get same framerates... I don't really feel like reinstalling windows every week, so do any of you any idea on how to fix it?

    my rig: Pentium 4 @ 3.0 GHz
    2GB DDR2 @ 600MHz
    x1950xt 256 mb @ 1280*1024 LCD

i dont know...i guess it could be your Pentium 4 :S...but to be honest i havent got a clue....maybe the driver support of my vga is better for the time being in windows 7

your vga card is better than mine...so theoretically you should be getting more fps
im guessing the cpu is creating a bottleneck...my brother has an older pc with a P4...they have the same clockspeed as todays cpus...but they dont perform as well

btw what fps are you getting?

    30 at most, 9 average, 1 minimum.

e2160 is not that much of a difference in performance from P4 Hyper Threading edition. Maybe TF2 is not "optimized" for single cores.. but again i get exactly same results with hyper threading mode on or off, and funy thing is, when HT is on, only 1 "core" is being utilized(so other half of cpu is just doing nothing), and when HT is off, CPU is loaded 100%, BUT i still get same performance...

    Vista. somewhat the same performance.

as i said, after fresh reinstall everything works PERFECT!
my k\d as a sniper is not lower than 5:1, and im pretty much dominating all the snipers on enemy battlements :P
but a week after fresh install, my fps drop below playable level.

Running nearly perfect with Win7 64 bit, 8800GT 512 and 181.20 drivers. Only problem is TF2 freaks out and stops responding whenever i quit. But that happened in Vista too

Does anyone's audio settings change while connecting to a server? Always have to alt+tab to change them back to normal volumes every connect..

Your really pushing your luck using a P4 single-core, I seriously doubt you will get any good framerate running a.) A single core machine, b.) a Pentium 4 c.) using a Pentium 4

You can solve that easily, Just type "Services" into the start-menu searchbox and find the Steam Client Service, Then change the Logon it uses from Local System to your admin user account and password

The Steam Client Service violates a high number of Local System account Security policy's so changing it to your Admin account solves the Crash-on-exit and a multitude of other Game problems

Heres how I configured my Steam Client Service properties, It does fix the Steam issues

    Yes, Its by design

Goto your Audio properties and change this setting if you dont want your other Audio volume lowered when you start playing a movie/game or anything else

Has anyone had any issues with audio in TF2? When I launch TF2 in windows 7 my speaker settings are always blank and my mic doesn't work. The strange thing is that the mic works fine in Steam but not in TF2.
