I have been having a problem when I play Team Fortress 2 on the 64-bit Windows 7. It randomly crashes on my stating there was a runtime error. I've done everything that I read on this thread yet it still happens. I was wondering if anyone can help me with it. I have a Nvidia 8800GT a core 2 Quad @ 2.5ghz and I run dual monitors.

I just got this through Steam and it won't even launch. It shows the loading screen then does a odd cycling of the desktop, flashes a lot, then makes a odd skipping audio sound. Have to exit with task manager.

I get that sometimes, I just open task manager. Then open the minimised TF2. And it works as per normal.

I had that issue in Vista too.

That is if it's exactly the same problem.

don't know, i top the lists from a Steam Install that is fromt he beggining of time, and TF2 since the 1st day out, Installes W7, no problem, it even runs better @30-50 - instant repawns and 32-slot 2forts, and @90 - with low pop servers

    8800GTX

P.s. im scared to grade to 181.22 ,
any of you done it exept johngalt with his 181 beta drivers?

Great forums u guys have here

I got this problem with my TF2. After i installed WIn7 (about a week ago), i was running TF2 @ 60fps in battles on all high. Now i barely get 15 fps on 32 slot server on respawn. and around 9 fps on 2fort battlements. The funny thing is, doesnt matter what settings i set, i still get same framerates... I don't really feel like reinstalling windows every week, so do any of you any idea on how to fix it?

    my rig: Pentium 4 @ 3.0 GHz
    2GB DDR2 @ 600MHz
    x1950xt 256 mb @ 1280*1024 LCD

as i said, i'm getting smooth framerates after fresh install. also i can play COD4 on 64 slot server on med\high settings with fluid FPS(tested on vista).

    Hey, welcome to the forums.

I can't say I've had the same problem as your having. I myself had to do a fresh install of Windows 7 here recently because it was freezing up on me. But if I recall from the past that when i tabbed out of TF2 on vista when it had slow frame rates and then came back in it'd be fast again. Something to do with making the GPU reshade everything? I have no idea but its worth a shot to check out.

Also 2GB of Ram is actually like the bare minimum now a days. You might wanna go hit up newegg for some more ram since its so cheap right now!

Yes I used that driver (now with 182.05 beta) and worked ok. But I installed the WU driver first then installed this.

Theres a Steam Client Update available that fixed the "Crash on Exit" bug and many others and includes a huge list of hidden advances to menus and settings

If you have previously modified your system configuration to prevent the "hl2.exe has stopped responding" on exit then its highly advisable to revert the changes you made previously as its finally been fixed

    Theres a brief description here:
[ame=http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=800588]Steam Client Beta Available - Steam Users' Forums[/ame]

to download the update goto Settings> Beta Participation then select the "Steam Client candidate"
