    Help: Unable to play FFXI

Hello, I am hoping someone will be able to assist me.

I see that FFXI is able to run in both the 32 and 64 bit environments of W7, however I cannot for the life of me get it to run on my 64bit system.

I am unable to open Playonline, Windows come up stating the program has encountered and error and must shut down. My system then freezes and I must log off to regain control of my PC. I have tried the one off my original discs and the "vista W7" version off FFXI's website. Neither have worked.

I have tried running as administrator & in the compatibility mode options given right clicking on properties.

I have downloaded all the updates to Windows and I believe I have updated my Video card as well.

    My system is:

    Alienware Aurora
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
    6GB Triple Channel 1333Mhz DDR3
    Intel Core i7 930 QC 2.8 GB GDDR5
    Dual ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB GDDR5

Square Enix will not assist as they claim they do not support the 64bit system.

If anyone assist me in helping me get this game to work I would really appreciate it.

This is most Contradicting... which one is it?

I would download fresh Audio and Video drivers and try again, if that fails... re install the game and any patches.

Or I would also try to install the game in compatible mode

Seems it is not compatible with x64 OS Windows 7 Compatibility for Final Fantasy XI Online: Square Enix. Drivers, Updates, Downloads

Do a dual boot of x32 if you have a retail windows 7 DVD

My apologies, I'm not very PC savvy.

It apparently is not compatible with the x64 OS.

As for the dual boot, I do not have a retail copy, just the recovery DVD Rom which was included with my PC at purchase.

Do you think if I purchase and load the Window's Virtual PC it would run acceptable or perhaps just purchase a x32 bit OS?

XP mode won't be of any use because it is not any good for gaming and also you need to have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate installed to be able to use XP Mode
