gaming pc build 2010

hey guys ive built lots of pc's in the past lots ranging to shitty ones up to the newest
im thinkin about building my own gaming rig starting from today im really tight on money thou at the mo got about 200-300 pound to build one could anyone possibly give me the right direction or the best direction to go towards like a website or pick out some products for me to look at in this price range
im not bothered about the case at the mo just some hardware stuff to chuck in

You're going to have to buy a used computer and put upgrades in to get that low of a price. Pentium 4 @ 3.2 GHz and a 9400 GT graphics card, along with 2 GB of RAM is enough to play Left 4 Dead 2 for example. How I know this is because I have upgraded an old Dell Optiplex GX280 into a budget gaming / business machine for when someone wants to play PC games and I'm using my high end system. The Optiplex started with a 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 with HT, 512 MB of RAM, and 64 MB integrated graphics. This PC is from 2004 and I bought it used off eBay for $75. I upgraded it to 2 GB DDR2 (this is when I learned that they had DDR2 machines in 2004 ) and put in an Nvidia 9400 GT 1 GB graphics card. Pushed the PSU to the limit. Minimum listed PSU for this card is 300 W. That's exactly what this Dell has. After the upgrades, I installed and ran Left 4 Dead 2. Lag was minimal, but had to be on lower detail settings. And multitasking? Forget it. You're not going to want to play music with Media Player and play a game at the same time when you're running on a single core processor.

TL;DR: A game console is your best bet here. Even a used PC with upgrades will not get you that great of a gaming experience.

Ended up costing around NZ$15000, excluding monitors

wow thats alot i have a monitor and 5.1 surround sound and a hardrive all i need is a case and some internal for pc i spotted this out anyone rekon this will be okay ?

games are one of the few things that really push a modern pc, and you need a good multicore processor, lots of fast ram (4 gigs recommended) , and most importantly a good graphics card, as well as a reliable hi-capacity power supply to make it all run smoothly and crash-free. oh, and a case, fans, hard drive, dvd...maybe you already have a spare monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers etc.

a half decent graphics card would be £200 on its own, unfortunately.

if your budget is really that tight, have you thought about an xbox or similar?

LOL I had a P4 3.2 2 gigs patriot ram and a 7300gt oc'ed by riva tunner it play both 1&2 left4deds and i beat them both off of it just because i accoplished that feat doesnt mean he should pursue the same

Best case scenario buy piece by piece every other paycheck or what not think of this as a investment not something that is immediatly needed i swear i see alot of things i want every day if i could but sometimes you got to be simple and take you're time when you do that you almost every time stumble upon great deals
