Hi all, I've already completed the game installed in WinXP? I'm dual booting Windows7 on another drive. Both are NTFS. Can I run the game installed on the WinXP on Windows7?

Yes you Probably can, but you would be better off installing it again and do a custom install and select the same location on XP, that way it saves you the space.

Any idea how to do that without doing a installation on Windows 7?

I did it yesterday, just install and select custom and change the drive letter to your XP partition and install it over your previous one, mine took about a minute to install because it is already there and it's only really adding registry values to Windows 7.

OK I have now been able to find a way to play and this how I did it.

    1. To install the game you have to do it with XP compatibility mode.
Note: you will have some issues at the end of the installation, just ignore and finalize the install.

    2. Go to the disc and open and go to this file and install.

    Attachment 2085

    2. Now go to the disc and select this file and install it.

    Attachment 2086

    3. Download the Games for Windows Live Update http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=98609

If you try to run the game before you install the update you should be prompted to install it before you are able to play.

    4. Once you have installed the update you then have to turn off any compatibility modes that you may have on as I found out, with XP mode I was told that I needed service Pack 3 and in Vista Mode I was told I needed service pack 1 so I unchecked it and ran as Administrator anyway.

    5. Start the game enter your live ID and your game key and then you should be able to play.
oh yeah tham man thats right i solved the problem in Win 7 thx...

I have installed windows 7 built 7000 32bit and I install gta4 with no problem.
The only problem that I have is when I am playing the game there is a glitch when you drive a car and hit a wall the camera starts to wobble.

One other major problem that i face when playing the game is the graphics settings are all set to the lowest point. and if i try to adjust i GET ERROR system doesn't have enough resources.
I have played gta4 on my current hardware with windows xp sp3 and I was able to play quite well on medium settings.

    Nvidia 8600
    2gig ram
    2.5 intel pentium dual core

If anyone has the same problem or a possible solution please let me know

I am having problems as well! I have the RC1 with 2.0 ghz, 4 GB ram and ATI Radeon 4570 512 mb. I get a (-5001 0xffffec75) error, and it will not go any further. I have installed the WLG update and RGSC as well, but with no luck. Any help?

    Thank you!

I had the compatibility mode enabled. I attempted Windows XP Compatibility and then Vista after that failed. They both ended up failing. What I have been reading is GTA4 install stopped working because of something to do with the Securom Protection since build 6956 I believe it was which makes me all the more pissed off.
