Will gaming kill my computer?

While we're on the subject of computers, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that excessive masturbation can lead to blindness. It's true.

I hope you understand the seriousness of this. :)

On topic though, you don't really need to worry about your PCs temperature either. If it overheats, it will either reset or shutdown. If that happens, you can open up your PC and feel the temperature. That's the layman's way of doing it, anyway. If it's too hot and all your coolers are working, your hardware can't handle that application. You'll probably be doing a lot of exploring once you start playing games and get annoyed whenever one isn't working, but I suggest you ask someone more experienced before you start fiddling with solutions given by the internet. Such as changing BIOS settings, including but not limited to fan speeds, voltages, features such as cool n quiet.

Have you played a prank on your parents yet? They deserve it :)

You could game for months and months non stop with no adverse effects at all as long as temps etc are good.

They are using the classic terror tactic on you...

Usually nearly impossible for a Air cooler to keep at or below ambient.

gaming by itself will not kill your computer, but if too much heat is generated by the components that will. Download HWMonitor and it will show you the temperatures. CPU temperatures should max out around 70 C and Graphics card should max around 80 C (someone correct me if i'm wrong)

Also, like Joules said, constant read writes will kill your hard drive fast, that's why I always download to a usb or SD Card

Just FYI; Full tilt on a 50 watt amp into 150 watt speakers will in fact kill the speakers unless they have a thermal protection circuit. The amp is protected with a thermal overload so it's safe but it's clipped wave forms will smoke the speaker in short order.

That is a fast way of killing your flash memory, since you only have so many write cycles.

And to be honest, your computer will probably be outdated and replaced before gaming will have any affect on it.
Keep it dust free and it will last. Hard drive may go out eventually, but that is normal since all hard drives will eventually fail.

Full tilt on practically any amp could do that. I'm talking about a guy whose parents wanted him down around 10% volume, and not because they were worried he'd fry it. In fact, they might have put up with the extra noise for a while if they thought he would fry it, since it wouldn't make any noise at all after that.
