    Quake help

I read here in the forums a solution, but did not work for me so I need some help. I have Win7 Pro 32-bit. I installed Quake 4 by not using the autorun. I instead followed the old thread and went into the CD and found the setup.exe file. Installation seemed it went fine. It asked about punkbuster, but I declined. Then it asked about directx update so I said yes.

Sorry, forgot to add that I went into the properties of the setup.exe and changed to Windows XP SP2 mode and run as admin.

Now when I launch the game, it starts up, I get to a grey screen and then win7 says that the program has closed, look for online solution or close program

The system is a Core I5 661 on a Asus P7H55-M Pro, 2 GB of memory. If anyone can add some solutions I can try them out and see if this can get this game to run, it's for a client. Thanks everyone

When a game asks you to install punkbuster you must say yes otherwise it will not run. Tha program prevents people from cheating while plaiying online. It this doesn't help, please write here again.

You have no idea what you're talking about, Punkbuster has absolutely no influence on whether the game will start up or not. Where in the world did you get that?

@ the OP: right click the .exe and check the "Disable desktop composition" in the Compatibility tab. That should do the trick.

well... i have Q4 and it runs "from the box" without any compatibility settings, so I would suggest only a patch for the game:

I'll look at both. Stef, the only reason I did not install it is because the client does no online gamig, he just like to .......um........play with himself.

Gornot, I will try this tomorrow after installing the update patch.

    Thanks IN

I will get back you all of what happens, thanks for all the input
