    Neverwinter Nights 2 gold crashing

    Hi all,

I am new to the forums but I'm not a noob. I searched the forums for a solution to my issue and, despite many threads dealing with NWN2 issues, none exactly mirror mine and none of the suggestions that I understood helped. So here's my issue:

I own Neverwinter Nights 2 Gold. It is a legitimate copy. I also own Windows 7 professional x64 legitimately. I have everything installed and can open the program. I can run the game all the way through character creation/selection. However, after the character has been created/chosen, the game begins to load and then crashes to the desktop. I am running all .exe programs for NWN2 in Compatability Mode for Windows XP Service Pack 2. and running them as the administrator with the "disable visual themes" and "disable desktop composition" settings check marked. Below are my system specs. Help please!

    CPU: AMD Phenom II X2 555 3.20GHz
    RAM: 4Gb
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series with driver version 8.791 from 10/26/10
    OS Windows 7 Professional X64

    Welcome to the forum!
You don't have to write your specs into the post, it can be checked on the bottom of your every post. :)
The only thing I can recommend is to run even the Setup.exe in XPSP2 compatibility and administrator mode.
As far as I know, the same problem is with SW: KotOR.
And install DirectX End-User runtime, too. Somehow, DX11 doesn't have all the files from DX9&8. This will fix the problem.

Fantastic! Installation of the DirectX End-user runtime did not immediate correct the issue but reinstalling the game with the setup.exe application set to XP SP2 compatibility did the trick! Thank you for your awesome advice!

    You're welcome... :)
This trick can help with many older games...
