Modern Warfare 2 crashes even on optimal settings

    Hi,

I seem to be experiencing crashes, something about Create2DTeture...=ran out of memory. It was recommended to try and at least play the last level on Optimal settings. It still crashed on me. Could it be the game or my video card. I upgraded from a Geforce 8500 GT to a GTX 260. I did not expect the game to crash on the 260. It played fine when I ran the 8500 GT.
The level which will not load is the one where I'm suppose to kill Shepherd after falling into the river after the rapids.

    Please help.

    Hi,

Have you downloaded any available (official) patches for the game?
Have you downloaded the latest drivers for your video card?

Did you uninstall the old drivers before you installed the GTX 260?

Might want to uninstall the gfx drivers, download driver sweeper run in safe mode then reinstall the gfx drivers again.

    Good Luck!!

Uhm, no I haven't downloaded and installed any official patches for the game. I looked on Gamespot, could not find any downloads available for MW2.
I did however installed the latest driver for the GTX260. Do you think that old driver might solve it... just to consider it?

    I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit

Yup, I did. I thought it would be nice to sweep any unused or excess drivers. Who knows what that might do. So I used driver sweeper and wiped my desktop clean and reinstalled the latest NVIDIA driver for the GTX260.
Should I consider using the old driver?

The newest drivers are usually the best, make sure they are not beta!!

Okidoki. I do have the latest drivers in use and they are not beta. I don't know if this might be an issue, but I used to have the ECS 6100pm-m2 v3 motherboard and 8500GT card installed when I played MW2. In device manager I saw two graphic drivers: the driver for the 8500GT card and from the onboard. Now I am using an ASUS motherboard because of the SATA layout of the ECS board and the size of the GTX card. I did install the drivers for the ASUS motherboard, but unlike the ECS board, device manager now only reads the GTX card as sole Display driver.
I dunno, thought this info might contribute.

    What do you think?

    Now I'm Confused.com

So what your saying now is, your using your hard drive on another PC (motherboard)?

If that's the case then you should have done a clean install to avoid conflicts like this, also you shouldn't have the on board Gfx-Card showing in device manager while your using dedicated gfx card!! You should be able to turn off the on board one from within the bios!!

Most of the time it's automatically disabled but I've known of times where both will show up

It may be worth doing a Repair Install which will completely re-install the system device drivers while leaving Software and User files intact.

I just did a repair install last night, but did not check the game. Very unrelated; I wanted to check out my BIOS settings on the Asus mobo. So I manually restarted the PC, which led to the boot menu option "start windows normally" or "repair install". if that would contribute to fixing the error of the game, i did not check it. I did not even consider it to maybe help solve the error.
