Games chrashes at startup, or will only run in low rez??

Hi guys, ever since ive bought my new pc whit win7 installed,
Im having problems running most older games, - And even some brand new ones too, (COD black ops/COD MW2, Deadspace 2, NFS Shift, and i could go on and on,..
    - Direct x is to blame i suppose?)
They either chrash at startup, (windows have encountered an unrecoverble error)
or if they start at all, they will only run in 1024x768 or 800x600 Resolutions wich basicly is unplayble for me,..

Ive off course tryed to run as admin. tryed to run in XP compatability mode and all that stuff,

my friend says i need to format, and install new bios drivers for my motherboard, do any of you guys, have any ideer what might be wrong?
Ive search high and low, but no one else seems to have this problem running both old/new games on win7?

    OS windows 7
    CPU i7 930. 2.80 ghz
    Motherboard asus PT6 SE-X58
    Memory 6 gig Kingston
    Graphics Card Xfx 5870
    Sound Card onboard
    Monitor(s) Displays samsung 22"

    Thx for your help

Do you have the latest drivers for your hardware from the manufacturers website installed? If not i would try that first.

Just checking.. i would run prime95 and memtest86 to check for system stability first.

Also is anything overclocked ? how are your gpu & cpu temps , at full load.

Hi Clinkz, No nothing is overclocked, havent checked my cpu/Gpu temps, for sometime, But last i did, it was within the specified tollerances i believe, but ive forgotten where to check the temps, could u plz direct me?
But ive been wondering, Somtimes when i play highend graphics games, my Graphic card makes an eerie Whining noise, (like a highpitched Humming noise - dont know how to describe it) but dosent sound right though,..

Which Windows 7 do you have?

When you updated your audio and video drivers, how did you do it?

When you were installing the games with Admin rights, did you also install the Directx that came included with the game... if it did?

I have never heard that updating your Bios Drivers will help with these issues but, if your bios is old, I don't see why you would not update them, although, your rig seems like a new rig so I doubt that would be the culprit.

Some old games, and even new ones, come with a lot of bugs, bugs that are not fixed until a few patches later so, I am going to suggest, searching for these patches first, save them according to games, uninstall all your games, clean registry from remnants of it and install one by one again. don't try them yet, install the patches and then try.

If you want to go further, before you install, right click on the executable and run Troubleshoot Compatibility

    Wooffff... sorry for the rant

    Hi Asta,
    1. Home preminium version.
    2. Went to products web site, and DL latest patch,
    3. Yes, i always install the DirectX ver. that comes wit the game (if any)
    4. Yer, I Patch my games to newest Ver. before playing,..but the thing is, ive still got my old rig, Whit XP as operative sys on. and All the games that wont run on my new rig, works just fine on my old rig, So it gotta be Win7?! -its just annoying,
And i know u can argue that, why dontcha just play the games on your old rig then, But its got an outdated GT 260 Nvidia card, and some of the newer games cant run in high settings in 1680X1050 Rez,.. And i would have to change cables and shit everytime i want to switch to the old rig,. And now it has become a matter i just want to solve anyway :)

    TY for ur advices/time

To narrow down the problem, try running the GT 260 card in the new machine. This will at least tell us if its your graphics card or not and not game bugs, other drivers or compatibility.

    Windows 7 Home Premium... 32bit or 64bit?
    Full install or Upgrade?
Are you also Dual booting by chance? not that it would make a difference, just checking I guess.

Sorry, I am not to familiar with ATI cards and I have always had nightmares with their catalyst and or drivers so I hate them for it. perhaps Nvidia is no better but I understand it so I can make it work. Perhaps Clinkz is onto something, it is worth a try. Uninstall the catalyst and drivers for the 5870, unplug from mobo, use the GT260 (on a different slot if at all possible), install new drivers (not from Windows) and see what happens.

    Ello,

    64 bit ver.
Full installation, on brand new rig, installed by the the store, where i bought the rig.
(they assembled it from parts i picked on theyr web site, and gave advices to wat gear would work well together)
    No dual booting,
hehe actually a good ider to try the old card in the new rig, But my 5870 works just fine,
(besides the noise it makes when running some games,)
I CAN run BFBC2, crysis2, Homefront, Two worlds2, Just cause2, Etc. without any problems at all, (on the new rig)
Think ill just have to format, and upgrade Bios, and reinstall all drivers and see wat happens, if no go, ill try to use the 260 in the new rig,

Again, TY all for ur help.
