    Sims 2 expansion packs

Hello. I have just installed my old copy of the Sims 2 on my PC (Windows 7 home premium 64bit). That game installed fine, but when I tried to install the first of many add-on packs, University, it managed to get through the whole installation process before it then informed me it needed to check to see if the game was up to date (of course it's not going to be).

Once it realised it wasn't up to date it asks for me to insert the Sims 2 disc 4, which I do and then the application crashes. Windows does it's best to fix it but has to ultimately close the program, meaning the whole installation process has to be reversed and I end up with no installed expansion.

I thought this might be an issue with University, so I tried a couple of other, newer packs which yielded the same results. I've also tried to contact EA, but I really don't think they'll be much help, if they even get back in contact.

    Thanks.

Yeah I tried that site, and that's where the problem started. I installed the main game and Windows popped up saying there were known issues with it, as its an oldish game now and to download updates. I was directed to that site and I downloaded the CD patch and the updater crashed out on me.

I gave up on it and went to install University and it did the same thing ...

I'll try to find out what the first expansion was then and try that to see what happens, thanks.

Edit: University was the first unfortunately!

When patching, you must have the correct CD in the drive before launching the CD patch program. So for example, make sure that Sims 2 (base) disc #1 is in the drive prior to launching the patch .exe.

If you're having problems with crashing .exe files, you might want to read this: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker (option #2)

Also, try disabling your computer's firewall temporarily while installing the expansion packs.
