+1 on dual booting for the rig you have at this moment... if at a later date you can upgrade or make a new more potent rig, win 7 ultimate (32 or 64) would be all you need.

good luck!
Thank you Mickey Magabyte for the Dual-Boot info, I now have an XP-W9in7 Dual-boot going, I'm currently on the XP partion setting it up to my liking.
have fun - i hope it makes your games a bit faster :)
hmm... my laptop boots faster in Windows 7. My laptop has 2 hard disks, both are Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB disks @5400 RPM, one hard drive has Windows 7 installed, the other hard drive has XP installed. The hard drive with Win 7 on it boots way faster, while it has only 94/500 GB still available. The XP hard drive is still almost empty, so you could call it a clean Windows XP installation with just programs like Firefox, Winamp and Winrar added, it boots alot slower.
I'm going to use that "XP hard drive" for gaming too and the Windows 7 one for casual stuff like browsing the web, doing stuff in MS Office etc...
