how to install Deus Ex in windows 7 64 Bit ?

have tried to install game today but each time it gets half way it freezes, windows stops it, or it just crashes have tried compatibility mode but that don't work . any help or pointers please?

thanks for post, i have tried installing but my machine just wont do it have a look at my specs it should be ok?

i think the patches are included as i was watching the files install i saw files resembling patches when it was un-packing compressed files is when the installer stopped and windows error popped up, could not go any more, twice i un-installed but i had to use revo not the game un-installer windows could not find it. third time round same as other attempts had to unstall, but the un-installer worked this time so i used that with revo. the second game i have not tried to install yet thought i would seek help before i try again with the first.

1.* INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
The following is the complete step-by-step loading instructions for DEUS EX COMPLETE.
1. Insert the 'DEUS EX COMPLETE' CD/DVD in your CD/DVD-ROM drive.
2. The Autorun should automatically launch the installer, if it does not come up then follow these instructions:

Click 'START' on your Windows taskbar,
Select 'RUN' or 'Start Search' (Vista users) and then type:*

3.* KNOWN ISSUES, FAQ'S & LAST MINUTE INFORMATION
DEUS EX
This bug occurs usually in harder modes of play.
BUG: After sending the satellite message for Paul, he is not in the hotel room when you have to go and talk to him.
FIX: Instead of exiting the ‘Ton Hotel from the front door, use the window in Paul’s room. Then come back to the hotel and Paul should be there.

Q. When I start Deus Ex, my mouse cursor disappears and my computer locks-up.
A. Chances are your audio card drivers are not compatible with DirectX. The only solution is to get DirectX 7 compatible
drivers from your audio card manufacturer. NOTE: It is very important that you have DirectX 7.0a on your system. Deus Ex takes advantage of new 3d sound technology offered in DirectX 7.0a, and cannot run without it.

Q. When I start Deus Ex, I receive the following error message: "The application Deus Ex.exe referenced memory at address xxxx:xxxx that can't be read from."
A. Chances are your video card drivers are not compatible with DirectX. The only solution is to get DirectX 7 compatible drivers from your video card manufacturer.

Q. The Installer keeps stopping when a certain percentage is complete, so I can't install Deus Ex.
A. There are three likely causes:
1) You may have run out of free space on your hard drive. Please remove unwanted programs to free up additional space for the game, and then reinstall Deus Ex. You'll need at least 150 MB free to install the game.
2) It's possible that files are being copied to a corrupted area of your hard drive. If this is so, you'll need to run the ScanDisk program and make sure to use the Thorough option. After ScanDisk has finished running and has informed you that your drive is free of errors, try to re-install.
3) The last major cause is dirt or fingerprints on the CD-ROM disc itself. Examine the bottom of the disc; if you see any fingerprints or dirt, carefully clean the disc using a clean, soft, lint-free cloth by wiping from the center of the disc (near the hole) towards the outer edge in a straight line.

Q. Deus Ex is crashing to the desktop with no error messages.
A. This can be caused by several different things. Here's a list of the most common culprits associated with these crashes:
1) Make sure DirectX 7 has been installed properly.
2) Make sure the game has been installed properly.
3) Make sure the CD-ROM is clean (check for both scratches and smudges on the reading surface of both CD's).
4) Make sure you have the latest Windows 95/98 drivers for your video card and that they are DirectX 7 compatible.
5) Make sure you have the latest Windows 95/98 drivers for your sound card and that they are DirectX 7 compatible.
6) Make sure Virtual Memory is enabled on your system.
7) Run ScanDisk.
8) Run Disk Defragmenter.
9) Make sure you do not have any Anti-Virus utilities running (like Norton's AntiVirus) while installing or playing Deus Ex.
10) Make sure you do not have any 3rd party Windows 95/98 memory management utilities (like QuarterDeck's QEMM 8.0 for Windows 95) running resident prior to playing Deus Ex.
11) Do not overclock your system, the results are unpredictable.
12) Make sure you do not have any 3rd party Windows 95/98 disk caching utilities running resident prior to playing Deus Ex.
13) Make sure you do not have Norton's Crash Protector running resident prior to playing Deus Ex.
14) Try uninstalling and then reinstalling the game.
15) Try exiting the game, rebooting your machine, and re-entering the game.
Note that if your system crashes to the desktop while playing Deus Ex, you should probably reboot your computer before starting a new play session. Otherwise, DirectDraw or DirectSound may be in a locked state, and the game will be unable to use your sound or video hardware.

This game is optimised for Microsoft's DirectX 9.0b (or higher). In order for you to play the game, you must have DirectX 9.0b compliant drivers for your video card and sound card. Please note that although DirectX 9.0b is included with the game, your video and sound card drivers will not be upgraded to DirectX 9.0b drivers.

Memory and Performance
While the game will run fine in 256 MB of RAM, your playing experience will be smoother if you have at least 512 MB.
Regardless of how much memory you have, you can maximize your available memory and increase the overall performance of the game engine by doing the following:
- Closing any open windows
- Shutting down all other programs, including menu-bar programs like ICQ
- Defragmenting your hard drive
We recommend that you have no other programs running at all while playing Deus Ex: Invisible War. Other programs, including virus checkers, system utilities and screen savers can cause system degradation when playing games software and may conflict with the game for system resources, potentially resulting in instability and crashes.

Known Issues
Graphics Cards
*
1. General
a. It is important to have the most current set of drivers for any video card you run the game with. These drivers can be found on the website of the video card manufacturer.
b. Some video card/driver combos cause over saturation when light bloom is enabled. Light bloom can be disabled through the Video Options menu.
2. ATI specific
a. Deus Ex: Invisible War will not run properly on ATI cards using the Catalyst 3.8 drivers. We specifically do not support these drivers with the game. Running the game while using these drivers will cause graphical corruption in the game, and eventually will cause a crash.
b. If you are running multi-monitor and you set the second display as primary in the control panel, the game will run on the second display, however the gamma settings will be applied to the first display. The workaround is to select the first display and check ‘Use this device as the primary monitor’ in Display Properties.
c. While the game will run properly on the 3.7 drivers, we strongly recommend updating to the Catalyst 3.9 drivers or higher on the ATI site.
d. When running with the ATI Radeon 8500 card, the movies and intro screens are slightly distorted. This does not affect anything else in game.

3. NVIDIA specific
a. IMPORTANT - If you are running with the newest NVIDIA drivers (53.03), you may experience graphical corruption if you are not also using DirectX 9. These Detonator drivers require DirectX 9 or higher in order to function properly.

Performance
1. If the game is performing poorly, lowering some of the video settings can help. Try turning the resolution down or lowering the quality of characters, shadows, or lighting on the second page of the video options.
2. Other video options may be turned off to help performance.
a. Light bloom - this is what gives the light a more radiant “glowing” look. Turning this off will improve frame rate slightly, and will make the game look clearer.
b. Vsync - Turning this off will increase frame rate slightly, but will cause vertical textures to ‘tear’ when you rotate.
c. Multisampling - This is an anti-aliasing option. Keeping this set to 1 will give the fastest performance.
3. Using the Alt-Tab functionality to get in and out of the game may lead to game instability issues.

a. Alt-Tab may cause the mouse to be non-functional within menus. Alt-Tabbing again sometimes fixes this, but sometimes leads to further instability.
b. If you Alt-Tab out of the game and your game resolution is set the same as your desktop resolution, you may experience problems getting back into the game. Generally it is more successful to click on the taskbar icon than to Alt Tab back in. There may also be game interface artefacts left on the desktop. These should disappear once you’ve gotten back into the game and then exited later.
4. The intro and endgame movies may play at less than optimal speed if there are programs running in the background
during or just before they are run. In order to get the best performance from the movies, we recommend shutting down all other programs before entering the game. Using the Alt-Tab during the movie to go out to desktop and shut down programs will not necessarily help performance.

Miscellaneous Information
1. If you share your “My Documents” folder across a network the game will say that you do not have enough space to save game. The solution is to not share this folder.
2. Alt-F4 has been disabled in this game. In order to exit the game, press Escape (Esc) to pull up the main menu and then click on the 'Exit' button. You will then be given a confirmation window before quitting.
3. The game will begin playing the intro movie if left idle on the start menu screen for an extended period. To exit out of this movie, press Enter or Esc.
4. There is a trailer for Thief: Deadly Shadows included with the game. This feature can only be accessed from the menu with the spinning Deus Ex logo (this menu comes up when you first launch the game). To view, select Options in the main menu. Then select Extras.

Corrupt, "flickering" graphics
If "tearing" or strobe-effect graphics are encountered, it is very likely that the computer has incompatible video drivers installed.
In order to solve the problem, you should download and install the latest drivers for your video card.
These can be obtained from Welcome to NVIDIA - World Leader in Visual Computing Technologies for GeForce cards or Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD for Radeon cards.

Mouse not moving
If your mouse pointer is not moving in game menus or in the game generally, you'll need to update your video card drivers.

Black Screen
The European (DVD) versions of the game can hang on the Windows Desktop or a black screen if either of the North American version patches have been applied.
If you have downloaded and attempted to apply the US/North American patches, you should uninstall and reinstall the game.
Please note that the European DVD ROM versions of the game already have all of the updates applied.
Another potential reason for a black screen is the presence of a DVD region- free program such as "AnyDVD." If you have this installed, it should be completely disabled and the system rebooted, prior to running the game.

4.* TROUBLESHOOTING
Video Problems
The vast majority of problems that you are likely to encounter are probably related to drivers that allow the game to make optimum use of your systems resources. In particular, video games are most influenced by Microsoft’s DirectX drivers, which are responsible for various aspects of your system, including: video, sound, controller input, 3D graphic functions, CD/DVD-ROM access and other functions. If you do experience problems, always ensure that you are using the latest drivers for these devices, and that your DirectX installation shows these devices as being certified (with DXDIAG).
CD/DVD-ROM Problems
Make sure that the CD/DVD-ROM disc is in the correct drive, with the label facing upwards. The CD/DVD-ROM disc must be in the drive to install or run the game. If you have two CD/DVD-ROM drives, the CD/DVD must be placed in the drive whose drive letter comes alphabetically first for the game to work.
Ensure that the CD/DVD-ROM disc is free from any markings or scratches which may interfere with normal operation. If the disc requires cleaning, gently wipe the surface with a dry, non-abrasive cloth.
Sound Problems
Make sure that your speakers or headphones are plugged into the correct socket, and that the volume control is at an appropriate level. If you are using powered speakers, ensure that the power is on.
If you continue to experience problems, ensure that the Volume Control taskbar icon (depicted by a small yellow speaker) is present.
Double-clicking this icon will open the Volume Control window.
Make sure that the Wave and Master Volume controls are set at an appropriate level and that the Mute feature is not enabled.
Debugger detected Error
Q: When I try to launch the game I get the following error: "Debugger detected - please close it down and restart.
Windows NT users: Please note that having the WinIce/SoftIce service installed means that you are running a debugger." I do not believe I am running a debugger. What could be the** problem?
A: This error is caused by DivX 5.1. The issue you have mentioned is a bug in this release of the DivX codec. The codec is actually what’s showing the error, and shutting down Blaze Media Pro because it is erroneously detecting the software as a debugger. You can resolve the issue by updating to DivX 5.1.1 DivX, and you will no longer have this** problem. If you do still have any problems please contact Technical Support.
SETUP.NOW Launch Errors
If any error messages occur whilst trying to run setup.now, please try running the vbrun60sp6.exe file which can be found in the \SONOW\BIN directory on the CD/DVD
The installer does not load
For the installer to work you must have the following configuration on your machine:
* Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or above
* Adobe Flash Player
If you get an error message on the Preload screen then click on the 'AutoFix' button.
To bypass the installer and load the separate components on this CD/DVD follow the instructions below.
The Game
