    Rainbow Six 3... Ravenshield

So I un-dusted my Rainbow Six 3 Ravenshield game, right away I run into a problem with DirectX installation but the install proceeds, then I hit a snag between changing to disk 2 but the installation continues... install is over.

I couldn't register online as I got the dreaded 404 error... no surprise there, this is UBI we are talking about after all.

I go to the shortcut and get to the properties and click on the Run as Administrator tab. I insert the CD1 back into the drive and run the game, I proceed to re install DX but it tells me a newer version is already there and it does not let me install so it finish the installation.

I start the game again with CD2 and this time it seems like it wants to get going until I hit the following error (see image attached).

I have tried compatibility with XP SP2 and Win 98/Me but to no avail.

So... has anybody made it work on win 7 x64? I did go check on that other thread but after 50 pages did not see the game listed there.

I sure don't want to try the illegal way but if I can't play it because I can't register because UBI sucks big donkey balls and can't keep their servers running... what am I to do?

To those who might want to play the game... Make ISOs of each CD and save them to a Temp folder, make a folder and call it CD 1 & CD 2 (or anything else you want), copy each iso to the correspondant folder, extract the iso with WinRar.

Right click on setup.exe and use Run as Administrator, follow each prompt and finish installation... don't worry about the given errors.

Patch to 1.60 and it should allow you to play the game.

WOW, if UBI was a bit smarter they would Remake this great games with updated graphics and people would buy them again... I know I would.

I think there is a community mod to upgrade this game with upgraded textures already. Forgetting what the name of the mod is though at the moment. I am not sure but last I remember it was so successful UBI actually may even have sent out a cease and desist letter to the modders!

Yea, I know of but IIRC, it was more for Multiplayer than the Campaign... no matter though, I am going to go look see

    Thanks for the reminder

Does the Awesomeness includes the Campaign or just MP?

The games play just like they always did. The mod changes the AI terros. They become smarter. It also gives you more ammo for the sniper rifles. It changes the way you aim by taking away the two stage sniper scope, you only get one magnification. It really makes single play more challenging because it takes away the little red dot for aiming. The problem is if you want to play MP you won't be able to unless you find a server that has the mod installed. otherwise you get a version mismatch. I got very burned out with MP and so that part of it doesn't bother me. You should also know that it's a full conversion mod so once you install, you can't go back without uninstalling and reinstalling the game. For me it made a game that I really like, kind of "new"again.

I only play Campaigns so that is a hell of a good news for me... this is the first time I hear mods do this hefty work on Single Player... they usually waste their time on MP.

Now, do I need to install this mod on top of the std installation that is already there or this is a clean install? I would imagine that it will not be the latter but I rather make sure as it took me a while to install the game on win 7 ultimate 64bit.

You install the mod on top of the original install. It's all automatic. If you like single player over MP, I believe you'll like it. I was just playing Athena Sword campaign with the mod. Until I got killed, lol. I'm running win 7 pro 64 bit and didn't have any trouble installing the original game at all. i specifically bought pro over home, i love the game that much, so I could run it in virtual mode if necessary, but it wasn't necessary. Just Google it, RavenShield 2.0, that's how I found it. Good Luck

Will do that tonight when I get home... Thank you very much!

I wish someone would do the same with the Original Ghost Recon as well... hell, I would gladly pay 20 cheeseburgers if that happened. It would be a lot better than throwing 20 bucks to buy the LEGO Shooters we are given now a days.
