Unable to install/play Half-Life Game of the Year Edition

Hi, I bought Half-Life Game of the Year Edition on CD and I can't to re-install or even play Half-Life Game of the Year Edition at all.

I ripped it to an .iso and all my friends are able to install and play using the .iso, everyone except me for some reason.

We all have Windows 7, cleaning the registry for leftover registry entries isn't helping either no matter how many times I attempt to install the game.

    Please help me.

To add to the previous post, Revo is a great way to completely remove all traces of the game from your system, including the registry entries and leftover files (all app settings and changes, but not always including things like saved games data, because they are usually stored in the User folder).

Did you try running the setup as admin+compatibility with XP and then playing the game with the same settings+desktop composition OFF? You can set all those things by right clicking the .exe in your game install dir and choosing Properties -> Compatibility.

If you still can't manage to get it working, you can install Steam, then go into Library, select Add Game, then type in your serial key and then you will be able to download the Steam version of Half Life which will definitely work.

Actually you should be able to activate it on steam so that you can get the downloadable steam version, which is less problematic, especially if it has the source engine.

    Anyway..... https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...5414-TFBN-1352

Since this is a Valve game, who owns Steam, I see no reason why the game can't be activated to get the Steam version, which again, is/should be less problematic than the CD version

BTW if you can get/it allows you to get, the Source version, that's the one you want....

@sygnus12 - Yes, most likely you can add Half-Life to Steam, but sorry to say you are wrong about one thing, which is that he has Half-Life, not Half-Life: Source. Just because Valve has ported it to Source Engine, does not mean that all people who have existing non Source versions of Half Life will get the Source version for free. They are two separate purchases on Steam...

    Non-Source Version: Half-Life on Steam

Source Version: Half-Life: Source on Steam

That's why I used the word if - As one who has the Source game I know you're correct

I know this because I had an issue when I initially bought the game - long story short, I accidentally downloaded the non-source game and they were going to make me pay for the source download, after finally convincing them that it was a mistake the swapped games out - something they'll tell you they rarely do.

Anyway I thought the GOTY edition had the source engine, guess not???

BTW, last game in the image :)

Lol I love Half-Life, I bought the Valve Complete Pack for only $50 bucks during the Steam Summer Sale, which is less than the price of Black Ops... :) :).

Half-Life GOTY uses GoldSrc not the Source Engine and it is not Win7 compatible. You must install and run it through Steam. Just add the game though Steam using your CD key and it will download and install for you.

    @wahoomcdaniels...

Sorry but you are wrong. Yes Half-Life GOTY is running GoldSrc (precedes Source) but it is still Windows 7 compatible. I have run both Half-Life and Counter-Strike on Windows 7 (both using the GoldSrc engine). Although to keep things simple for OP, adding it to Steam would be the best idea...
