how did you "connect" the wireless controller to the PC?
Play-and-Charge cable only charges the controller.

You need the MS 360 Wireless Adapter to use the 360 wireless controllers on the PC.

AS far as software goes, at least for the wired version, there isnt any.

    Its just plug and play.
Controls and buttons can sometimes be changed in game, but thats about it.

i downloaded the driver/software package from MS, but the software that came dosent seem to do anything except let you know your connected and how your battery is doing. would have thought the software would let you assign keys to buttons and use the controller to move the pointer if wanted.
you dont seem to be able to do anything!

Are you saying you didn't get instructions and an CD with it??? If so, you should have, unless you bought it used, or open box. Anyway go here: Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows | Microsoft Hardware - you can get the manual or quick start guide there as well

did you happen to miss post #2?

the Wireless controller only works wirelessly on the PC and requires the Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter that I linked to in Post #2.

Were you talking to me? If so.....

Well one would assume when you buy a Wireless Controller you'd know you need the adapter - So yeah, I might have overlooked post #2

    Sorry

You must have the off-brand adapter then which requires 3rd party software to run. there were a few threads about that in this forum.
the official MS adapter is plug and play with Windows 7 (I have one and use it with my controller).
does your adapter say "XBOX 360" on the top or "Microsoft"

And ya, plenty of people have tried the plug and charge cable thinking that the controller would then work as a wired one.
