It seems the game has some issues with Windows 7, its still in beta. Anyways, try running the game in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode and Run as Administrator.
I'm not quite sure how to do that lol

Right-click > properties >compatibility >tick Run as administrator and from the dropdown menu select Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Is this a pre-built PC with an aftermarket vid card you threw in there? Might be a crappy mobo causing some bottlenecking.

Oh yeah, though I'm an ATI guy, the 8500GT is a solid card. Not quite up to today's standards...but...

Perhaps you have too much stuff running in the background. Like your antivirus, itunes, limewire, msn,...etc

I close every single program before I load into the game.

The problem with the term lag is that it is such a general term with a general meaning.

I would highly suggest reading this article - Guides: How to Get Rid of Lag - GeForce - In addition to explaining the various forms of lag and how they affect performance, it also gives a few suggestions on dealing with it.

    Well worth the read.

    Good luck.
